In the staunchly pro-military state of South Carolina - where the next Republican primary will be held - the issue of Donald Trump's draft deferments is likely to be central

As the US presidential election reaches the pro-military state of South Carolina, the Republican front-runner Donald Trump is set to become embroiled in a new controversy: the story of how his bony feet kept him out of the Vietnam War.

The southern state is home to eight military bases and 58,000 veterans, and 25 per cent of those expected to take part in Saturday's primary vote for the Republican nominee are either serving or former members of the armed forces.

Mr Trump, who has led polls in South Carolina since July, received a deferment from the Vietnam draft because he had bone spurs in both heels....

Was Ted Cruz draft eligible during the Vietnam war?

No, he was living in Canada as a kid.

Hey.. we're up HERE in the NOW.

You're ALWAYS somewhere in the past looking for irrelevant "nothings" to trumpet to a handful of followers.

I'm interested in the TRUMP of NOW and what he promises to do for this Country and its VETERANS.

Go grind your axe down the street.

Which branch did cruz serve in?
____________________________________________________

I was in the USAF 71-75, but I wasn’t a draft dodger like Trump getting deferments because of a rich daddy.

Where is your information that Cruz was a draft dodger like Trump and his buddy Clinton. BTW he slandered Bush who did serve.

Nothing here, and I am not a Trumpster. If I was, I’d go on and insult Ted Cruz, even though Cruz has nothing to do with this story.

Do you mean he did not go to Canada and become a Canadian citizen instead ?

What branch of the Military did any Presidential Candidate ever serve?

Gilmore enlisted in the United States Army after attending college, receiving training and preparation for service in the Military Intelligence Corps at the newly created United States Army Intelligence Center at Fort Huachuca in Arizona. Gilmore also received rigorous foreign language education at the United States Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California. Gilmore then worked for three years in the early 1970s, in the 650th Military Intelligence Group. Serving in West Germany during the Vietnam War and fluent in German, he served as a U.S. Army Counterintelligence Agent.[4]

Cruz went to Canada, beyond the reach of the law. Trump remained in the United States, subject to all the laws respecting the draft.

I spent 24 years in the military and was eligible for the lottery-draft back in the day - there was nothing Patriotic about going to Nam as it was a hamburger-from-human-bodies generator with no intentions of ever being won.

The real asshats were the politicians that refused to either win it or drop it - until it all came to a head under Nixon and he at least had the balls to act - it killed a lot of folks after we left but they weren't our young men being needlessly sacrificed.

Do you understand what most of the military schools are? Many are expensive twenty-four hour babysitting services for wealthy families who do not have time to raise their children. Many schools are highly regimented, strictly disciplined for errant boys with delinquent behavior and the families can not handle them or don’t want to take the time to resolve the issues. And by the way,I don’t have a candidate yet.

My dad was drafted into the army during the Korean War. Which is amazing to me considering he had the flattest feet I’ve ever seen.

He did his tour down at Ft. Knox. A desk clerk.

I imagine the army changed requirements between Korea and Nam.

Mine was in the Korean war in an engineering unit. His unit shipped out to Korea while he was waiting on a set of false teeth. He got sent to Germany to do reconstruction instead.

Donald was sent to military school after he punched out his music teacher. Fred Trump, while wealthy, was not known as being a spendthrift,

And by all accounts Trump had a good home life, with a stay at home mom. Not a hands off, too busy to take care of the kids environment.

Trump had a PE coach who was a former Marine NCO. Someone he came to respect and who taught him much. He wrote about it in “The Art of the Deal”.

What branch did any of them serve in? Having a military veteran as president is not likely something we will ever see again.

Just Trump who is 69, Bush comes in close at age 62. All the rest are under the age for Vietnam War. Which was the last draft issued.

Google has a ton of articles on Trump’s draft dodging for a foot injury during Military School.

He should have taken his Draft notice the way Elvis did man up and go. The Military has a need for non-combatants too. Elvis didn’t dodge the draft, he was sent to Germany.

Bone spurs can be repaired. Doesn’t seem to impair his ability to run or walk since. http://www.drweil.com/drw/u/ART03031/Heel-Spurs.html

NONE of the other candidates were of Vietnam age, and there has been no draft held since.

So, after defeating another false Trumpboner allegation of a Cruz "lie", you are going to run away and hide.

Typical, coward Trump zombie. Run away! Run away! Run away!

You're just like your candidate....you can't admit to the lies and then you top it off by being a total jerk at 1:00 a.m. Some of us have lives other than aguing with jackasses about weasels.
