With just over a week until the first 2016 election contest, Donald Trump takes the lead in Iowa -- and maintains his big advantage in New Hampshire.
That’s according to the latest round of Fox News state polls on the Republican presidential nomination contest.
Trump bests Ted Cruz in Iowa and now receives 34 percent support among Republican caucus-goers. Cruz is second with 23 percent -- down a touch from 27 percent. Marco Rubio comes in third with 12 percent, down from 15 percent. No others garner double-digit support.

That is why I say that Trump’s support isn’t malleable.
He started out at nothing. He didn’t have a natural base that was just there like Cruz had. He had to earn every last bit of support by making big moves, taking big risks, and taking lots of heat.
When people saw this, they were seeing a candidate being created before their eyes. Seeing the entire process left people fully knowledgeable of what this person is every step of the way, so once you got on-board, you were there and not going anywhere.
Trump being in the public eyes for 40 years also left people with a strong sense that everything about him has been out for decades. People feel like they know the guy as they would know the person that has lived next door forever. He’s gruff, but he’s fair, and would run in with his water hose if your house was on fire even though he’s loaded.
Trump’s not a saint, but people are saying “hell, neither am I”. But he clearly loves this nation and give a damn about trying to turn it around.

Yeah right. Who? Bush? I can't wait til Feb 1. The pretenders will exiting stage left soon afterward and we can start focusing on the true enemy. Democratics.

there just isn’t anywhere to grab another 15 or 20 percent with rubio carson bush and a few other losers holding maybe 30 percent of the vote
we’ll never know how much of carson’s and rubio’s votes would have gone to cruz or trump

No. Apparently they cannot stop themselves from savaging Cruz to justify their irrational support of Trump.
Many, perhaps most, Cruz supporters admire Trump, consider him as likely to go GOPe as many phony Tea Party candidates did once in office, but Cruz supporters declare their support for Trump him if he is the eventual nominee. How can Trump supporters reciprocate if they continue to equate Cruz with Count Dracula?
In 17 years here at FR I've never seen such an unprincipled movement and behavior. Instead of using principles and evidence to explain why they support their guy they must instead savage the opposition and tear his character apart. Telling. Many here are no different than those at DU.

Untold story: When both 1st and 2nd choices are combined it’s 48% Trump and 45% Cruz.

Yes. What has happened here? I’ve become more of a lurker than an active participant these days (and some think that’s a good thing, as I obviously can’t take the “heat”).
FreeRepublic used to be the place where you would have, yes, passionate discourse, but discourse that lead with a salient point, rather than a punch somewhere below the belt.

He runs in circles where millionaires/billionaires run...most of us can’t say we know what that entails at all.
Plenty of blame to spread around. I will, however, offer that though this is certainly good news for Trump, and a surprise to me frankly that it would be that much of a change in Iowa, it is all speculation until the votes are cast.

It’s “untold” because it’s irrelevant. Rubio, Carson, Paul, etc. will be there in Iowa combining to get a significant percentage of the votes on caucus night.
