Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) is slamming Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz for attacking “New York values" and praising GOP rival Donald Trump for defending his home state.
"I'm a Democrat, but Donald Trump did a very good job defending New York," Schumer told host John Catsimatidis on "The Cats Roundtable" on New York's AM-970 on Sunday.
"I'd like Ted Cruz to go talk about New York values to the firefighters who rushed to the towers on 9/11, and the police and EMTs, to the brave New York police officers who keep our streets safe," he added.
Schumer also noted that Cruz's wife worked for Goldman Sachs.
"Maybe he wants to go to Wall Street and talk about New York values, you know, where his wife worked," Schumer said.
After Cruz attacked Trump this week for representing "New York values," Trump defended himself at Thursday's GOP presidential debate by invoking the city's response to the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
"I think [Cruz] hurt himself and he deserved to, and Trump, gotta give him credit, was right on the money in his response," Schumer said.
Schumer also referred to a New York Daily News front page showing the Statue of Liberty giving Cruz the middle finger.
"He will be now forever on the front page of the Daily News memorialized, because they had the Statue of Liberty, and she made a gesture in Cruz's direction," Schumer said.
As for the Senate, Schumer touted the body's bipartisan work in December, including passage of a transportation bill. Schumer said the work would be a sign of a productive year ahead.
"I think things are going to be a little better in the next 12 months," he said.
No one with a morsel of working brain tissue in their head would believe for a second that Cruz was referring to the heroes of 911, most of whom are CONSERVATIVE (firemen, policemen, construction workers). I've lived in NYC all of my 50+ years and, trust me, it is a town LOADED with lunatic liberals.
Trump can dish it out, but whines like a wuss when some is less than adoring. His widdle Trump fewings are hurt.

You don’t know the full spectrum of what I posted here. I called Cruz ‘statesmanlike’ in another post and agree with Hannity’s take.
I don’t expect everyone to read all posts on a given thread. But we all need to quit going full throttle off-the-bat.

Arthus, Wildfire! March. I guess you are forgetting to factor in that to many of us “liberal” is the nastiest thing you can say about anyone. I have written off any but superficial exchanges with anyone who voted for Obama and won’t admit that they were wrong and sorry. If I want to say that someone is beneath contempt I don’t need to trot out my thesaurus I just say “He’s a liberal” and I’m done.

I wnet to catholic school in Brooklyn, played stickball on stoops, went to college at Fordham. I don’t know the city he paints. I did avoid Time Square before Rudy cleaned it up and on visits in to the Theatre I see some things I don’t like but there is no denying the hustle bustle and the heart of NY. Like I love my country I love NY.

I wasn’t attacking what you said about being moved by Trump’s comments regarding 911 and the heroic responders. I was referring to his sleaziness in making it appear as if that was what Cruz was talking about.

Hannity, a New Yorker as we all know, agrees Cruz and also appreciated Trump’s defense of New York. So do I.
Trump won big on a local level. I’m happy for him. Cruz wants to win big on a national level AND make people talk more about right-and-wrong in politics, otherwise known as conservatism.

Dude, it was the other 49 states who bailed NY’s asses out of 9-11....not the other way around.
Without our money thru charity, our taxes, and our prayers, NYC would still be rubble. Yes there were heroes in NYC in 9-11 - but to claim those as “NY values” and not “American values” is the height of ignorant arrogance.
Then again, “ignorant arrogance” is a growth industry around here.
