A quarter of Republicans think White House hopeful Ted Cruz is disqualified to serve as U.S. president because he was born in Canada to an American mother, a new Reuters/Ipsos poll found.Republican voters nearly mirror independents and the broader electorate in their belief that Cruz cannot hold the White House, with 27 percent of all voters and 28 percent of independents responding he should be disqualified.
Cruz, a U.S. Senator from Texas who was born to a U.S. citizen mother and Cuban father in Calgary, Alberta, has brushed aside the attacks about his eligibility as pure politics. But the questions could hamper his ability to rally the broad Republican support he would need to win the party's nomination to run for the presidency in November's election.
Only 47 percent of all voters surveyed responded that they thought Cruz is qualified to be president with regard to his citizenship, with 26 percent saying they were not sure.
The poll was taken from Jan. 7 to Jan. 14, before questions about Cruz's eligibility became one of the most heated moments of Thursday night's Republican primary debate.

Watch Trump’s 20-25 years old videos on youtube, he is saying same.
25% - that about makes up the “jeb or any other rino” candidates.
They must have polled Free Republic, the same 25 % apparently
celebrate NY values
“...electable strict conservative in this cycle....”
Who is the strict conservative in this cycle (electable or not)?
If Trump gets elected then changes his tune he’ll be right in line with 95% of the rest of the candidates who got elected then changed their tunes.
I guess our only choice is to keep voting for what they say and hope they mean it. Eventually we might accidentally get one that’s honest.
Yep.
There’s no proof trump’s scottish mother was a citizen therefore trump is not a nbc
“no proof trumpâs scottish mother was a citizen”
Wow just wait until the the NYC gets digging in this NBC mud pit!
I completely agree with this. The US media machine also knows this and uses it to full advantage. Fox, CNN, etc. know that all they need is to get the sound bite out once, and most will believe, even if they know it to be an outright lie. The fault lies in our education system that has produced at least one full generation of adults that can’t even read a map never mind possess any type of critical thinking skills. A quick glance at youtube shows ivy league students signing petitions that would strip them of their right to petition, while in sunny Florida “Americans” think that the recent attack on Mount Rushmore by North Korea isn’t our problem because its an international affair we shouldn’t get involved in. Keep these examples in mind when pondering constitutional questions such as the founders intent in the NBC clause of the constitution.
Do tens of millions in CA and other states rate high enough for Mr. Cruz’s “Values”?
I just hope being in CA I qualify for Mr. Cruz’s “Values.”
And Rooters believes nothing ever disqualifies Hillary Clinton.
Since every Trump supporter that I’ve talked to on FR doubts Cruz’s eligibility then this polls would indicate that only 25% of republicans are really Trump supporters.
I like Cruz. His New York values comment was a large political mistake. He has alienated conservatives who live in New York, but more than that the media has seized on it as a way to ensure he is not the nominee. Trump was smart enough not to do this in Vermont. My very conservative in-laws still live up there. If Cruz or Trump had said “Vermont Values” they would have been offended. That being said, he’s not their candidate anyway and neither is Trump. They like Kasich, go figure. Take your favorite poll and add up everyone’s numbers except Cruz and Trump and you will get close to your 25 percent. If you are a conservative voter and live in NY ( or CA) go ahead and be offended if you want, but we all know that Cruz would never win there in either a primary or the general. My same in-laws don’t like Cruz because they blame his brinkmanship and the resulting government shut down for the Republican loss of the Virginia race. I’m not convinced this is true, but I do think that among more moderate freepers that it is the real reason Cruz is so disliked. It may make you sound smart to pose a rhetorical question about your CA “values” but it’s not actually a bad question to ponder when considering who to vote for regardless of the general politics in the state where you reside. How do my values line up with the positions of the various candidates. Am I pro-life? Do I agree with a strict constructionist view of the US constitution? Do I want less government in all aspects of my life? or do I want more? Perhaps rather than reacting emotionally to whatever daily distorted news item is released about “our candidate,” we should examine ourselves and take our true “values” into the voting booths with us.
The WND website ran an article on this some years back and purports to show an image of her naturalization document dated several years before The Donald's birth. Source
Rafael should deport Trumps wife!!!
Good one!
Except that’s not the case. Another 25% are unsure.
Even the State Department says that simply because one is born abroad doesn’t necessarily qualify them to be natural born. That’s in the official state department handbook.
If you want to go by what the founders intended. They explicitly said in 1790, that those with foreign fathers born outside of the US weren’t natural born citizens. Cruz’s father was a cuban citizen residing in canada.
