A Missouri grade school coach has been charged in the murder and kidnapping of a 10-year-old girl whose suspected body was found in his basement with what police said was a gunshot wound to the head.
Craig Wood, a football coach and teacher's aide at Springfield's Pleasant View K-8 School, was charged Wednesday with first-degree murder in the death of Hailey Owens, whose body police believe was found in a storage bin.
The little girl was last seen walking just a block from her home at 4:48 p.m. Tuesday when a terrified couple called 911 to report her seen being swept up by a man in a prowling pickup truck.
Michelle Edwards, who witnessed the attack with her husband, told police that the man driving the vehicle with long grey hair pulled over to her and asked for directions, calling, Hey, come here a minute, according to the felony probable cause statement.
Edwards said when the child ignored his attempt Wood got out of his car and threw her into his vehicle "like a rag doll."

You gotta understand, I’ve worked in the criminal justice field for over 20 years now. I’ve heard of and seen sh.. um, stuff that would blow your mind and make you sleep with the lights on surrounded by guns. I thought I was shock-proof. I was wrong.
I was taught in the sixth grade by a male teacher, who was a fine guy and knew how to keep the boys in line. This sort of teacher should be encouraged in grade school, where the boys need someone who understands their interests and is a good role model. Married men with kids preferred.
The description of the crime is bizarre.
Generally, perps like this deal with their victims in a much more personal manner than a bullet to the head. Hopefully, they’ll be able to discover his motives.
How awful!
As much as I hate to say this, I will not be surprised if there have been other victims, or at least “buildup attempts”, until he got bold enough. A normal human being just doesn’t suddenly decide to kidnap and murder someone, much less kidnap a child for purposes I don’t want to even guess at. This guy likely has been a sick mind for a very long time.
RIP to the little girl. Prayers up for her family.
I believe you’re right.
It sounds like they’re not sure they’ve found a body. If it’s in many pieces, ick, that would be understandable.
“”””He took everything from that little girl. Lets hope there is a speedy trial and a speedy execution afterwards””””
How about a speedy execution and then maybe a slower trial at a later date?
Lucky us, eh?
There are some that love it and take it up as a cause and will do anything to prevent some deserving person from being executed.
For example, I posted this information yesterday. Here in Missouri we've got a guy on death row - Michael Taylor who has been there for 25 years. He raped, tortured, and murdered a 15 year old girl, and it looked as if his time had run out and he's finally up for execution. But his lawyers have found something new to gum up the works. Missouri uses lethal injection and what most people don't realize is that since major pharmaceutical firms won't get their hands dirty in this area, all states depend on small, mom-and-pop companies to prepare and sell the chemicals used in the execution process. Well Taylor's crack legal team have now gone after the company that they believe supplies Missouri with the drugs we use, and basically made it clear that they were prepared to plaster the company name all over the media and, if possible, destroy their business. As a result the state doesn't have the stuff it needs for the execution. Taylor's attornies are in court claiming that whatever phenobarbital the state has must have passed the expiration date and using it might cause undue suffering to Taylor. The governor claims the execution will go on as scheduled but I don't know.
Not a word, you note, about Ann Harrison, his victim. She was 15 when killed. She'd be 40 today.
Lawyers are scum. (Said with aplogies to my lawyer boy friend who really is a sweet guy but sorry honey, facts are facts.)
There is no justice if a man can live out life in prison after murdering a child in cold blood.

Fits right in with the "prowling pickup truck" line.
Jourbalists. Sinking lower and lower every day.
Back in the day when we had a justice system, this waste of human flesh would be worm meat by now.
This POS needs a fast track trial and then straight to the rope and hanging tree.
Some people just need killin’.....................
Get rid of him now...not 15 years from now.
No. The animal needs hanging by the state.
I hear what you are saying, but I just feel like even an arsenal doesn’t protect one against whatever the heck was going on here.
I mean maybe we’ll find out the guy is some kind of serial child killer, or had some great animus against this girl for some reason, however crazy that might be.
But right now it seems like he was suddenly possessed by the Devil.
Please understand, I’m not in any way attempting to make an excuse for what this man did.

Justice in America is a joke. Along with social order, moral values, responsible governments and most all other aspects of normal society.
Vigilantism. It's just around the corner. What is truly sad is that normal Americans will soon have to take law and order into our own hands. Against our own government.

“suspected body”?
My exact reaction...
