A Missouri grade school coach has been charged in the murder and kidnapping of a 10-year-old girl whose suspected body was found in his basement with what police said was a gunshot wound to the head.
Craig Wood, a football coach and teacher's aide at Springfield's Pleasant View K-8 School, was charged Wednesday with first-degree murder in the death of Hailey Owens, whose body police believe was found in a storage bin.
The little girl was last seen walking just a block from her home at 4:48 p.m. Tuesday when a terrified couple called 911 to report her seen being swept up by a man in a prowling pickup truck.
Michelle Edwards, who witnessed the attack with her husband, told police that the man driving the vehicle with long grey hair pulled over to her and asked for directions, calling, Hey, come here a minute, according to the felony probable cause statement.
Edwards said when the child ignored his attempt Wood got out of his car and threw her into his vehicle "like a rag doll."

WTF?

You don’t need a devil to perpetuate evil. Man is quite capable of descending into depths of depravity all by himself.
"suspected body"?
And some say the death penalty is cruel and unusual punishment...
In exigent circumstances such as this, I’m amazed that they cops didn’t get a search warrant for this guy’s house till the next morning.
Obviously, this gave him extra time to kill the little girl and clean up the mess.
Reminds me of the cops in Cheshire waiting till the 2 dudes killed people before they moved in
“whose suspected body”?
What I can’t understand is that several eye witnesses saw this guy, description of car, he was chased bu another, got his license plate number, but a warrant was needed to search the house??? Maybe the COPS knew the Victim was dead and wanted to be doubly sure not to mess up the case... LAWYERS, please comment...
“WTF?”
Yeah, this is some crazy story. I’m really astonished to read that he shot her.
After a pretty much law abiding life this guy suddenly goes out, grabs a child off the street and within a short time shoots her in the head?
This is just bizarre to me.
Thank goodness those people were there, good on them for not ignoring what they saw.
can’t wait to see what kind of defense attorney this guy gets...that’s got to be about the worse job in the legal profession, having to defend scumbags just because they are entitled to one.
People who hurt little kids and animals are the lowest scum around.
Even in a prison, garbage like this are at the bottom of the heap.
I feel so sorry for her family and friends.
Of course if it turns out to be the body of someone else the case just went from strange to plain weird.
This is probably going to offend a lot of decent people, but whenever I hear a story like this I always think back to something I was told by a very wise man when I was a kid. He said he always had a subtle mistrust of men who worked in grade schools in teaching or administrative positions. Sure, he was old-fashioned ... but something about the whole thing just struck him as odd and creepy.
According to early news reports the body was found in more than one trash bag. That may explain the odd wording.
The school district needs to be sued and the school leaders need to be jailed just like the Boy Scouts.
He took everything from that little girl. Let’s hope there is a speedy trial and a speedy execution afterwards
Only because our criminal justice system is broken and politicians allow innocent men to die. Just ask pRick Perry and Gregg Abbott. They are so frightened by the truth they bury it, along with any review boards and hope for accountability.
open and shut cases are easy but not all of them are so clear. All men deserve the right to a fair trial and if put to death, it better be done by truth. Unfortunately the gov hates truth and is a slave to the ambitions of men.
This guy may not be guilty if you read the article...according to the witness a “prowling pickup truck”, may be the culprit?
WTF kind of journalism is this anyway?
