This is probably going to offend a lot of decent people, but whenever I hear a story like this I always think back to something I was told by a very wise man when I was a kid. He said he always had a subtle mistrust of men who worked in grade schools in teaching or administrative positions. Sure, he was old-fashioned ... but something about the whole thing just struck him as odd and creepy.

I was taught in the sixth grade by a male teacher, who was a fine guy and knew how to keep the boys in line. This sort of teacher should be encouraged in grade school, where the boys need someone who understands their interests and is a good role model. Married men with kids preferred.

Manly men .... raised right, with morals and values, who can distill those same morals/values by good example to their students and who require discipline, respect and accountability make fine teachers. If they’re Marines (once a Marine, always a Marine!) no longer on active duty, who with one steely stare and not a word spoken can make a punk sit down and shut up, so much the better.

I agree with you. This guy intentionally wanted to be around kids to give him opportunities.

“He said he always had a subtle mistrust of men who worked in grade schools in teaching or administrative positions.”

I coached my daughter’s soccer team for 7 years. I was always VERY aware of that viewpoint that people might have (I’m a guy). One girl would come running up to me at the start of practices and games and give me a huge hug each time - akward! (Luckily she stopped by the time she was 12 or so!).
