They were a British family on a day outalmost a million years ago.
Archaeologists announced Friday that they have discovered human footprints in England that are between 800,000 and 1 million years oldthe most ancient found outside Africa, and the earliest evidence of human life in northern Europe.
A team from the British Museum, London's Natural History Museum and Queen Mary college at the University of London uncovered imprints from up to five individuals in ancient estuary mud at Happisburgh on the country's eastern coast.

From the article:
"Homo antecessor" were not "human beings".
They are thought to have possibly been our ancient ancestors in Europe similar, possibly related to, "homo erectus", "homo egaster" and/or "homo heidelbergensis".
Antecessor predates Neanderthals, and may-or-may-not be their, or our, direct ancestors.
These footprints add to Antecessor remains found at two sites in Spain, one in France and two others in England.
I just mopped that estuary darn it!
For the last time, this is all circumstantial evidence. You can’t prove it was I!
Whoever it was 800kya, they certainly weren’t British! Also, at that time, the British Isles were not islands at all but still part of the mainland.
Ask Mad mo; he'll tell you they were "proto-Muslims".
The whorls will be a dead giveaway!
