For many years, those of us in the Arctic have been fighting the wood stove ban. The use of PM2.5 particulates has been an issue pursued by local agencies as a way to swipe at those who choose to live beyond the borders of traditional civilization. That attack has now extended to the rest of the United States.
In a stunning move, the Environmental Protection Agency decided to ban most of the operational wood stoves in the U.S.
In those places where there is you, God, and nature, the wood stove has represented that one thing that can sustain. Going after local PM2.5 particulates has been one of many methods to attack those who choose to live independent of government. As Off Grid and American Prepper survival report reveals:
The EPAs new environmental regulations reduce the amount of airborne fine-particle matter from 15 micrograms to 12 micrograms per cubic meter of air.
This means that most wood burning stoves would now fall into a class that would deemed unacceptable under these new draconian measures. The EPA has even launched a nifty new website called Burn Wise to try to sway public opinion.
On their site, while trying to convince people to get rid of their old stoves and buy the new EPA-certified stoves, they state that these older stove must be scrapped and cannot be resold.

Most people won’t build their own wood stove if they can’t buy one.
We have a fireplace in our house, but haven’t used in in the past few years with the mild winters. We have one of the wood burning fire pits we use on cool nights in the back yard. Guess we will have to hide those now.

Did you really think we want those laws observed?" said Dr. Ferris. "We want them to be broken. You'd better get it straight that it's not a bunch of boy scouts you're up against... We're after power and we mean it... There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What's there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted and you create a nation of law-breakers and then you cash in on guilt. Now that's the system, Mr. Reardon, that's the game, and once you understand it, you'll be much easier to deal with.
“This is just like the regulations on new toilets.”
Regulating a cook stove is much worse. You see, one regulation leads to another one to another one to another one to another one to another one to another one, etc..
There are companies that make outdoor fireplaces. Appears to me they would have to be regulated totally out. And barbecues and camp fires and et., et.,.
What regulation started it all? No one knows, but it did happen and started and grew until one day it will be “1984”.
Isn’t using charcoal pretty much burning wood twice?
I don,t know, I looked at the list and there are a ton of approved stoves. I bought one about eight years ago and love it. I was glad to see that it was on the approved list. During the summer I cut, split, and stack enough wood to keep me going through the winter. Granted I’m below the Mason Dixon line, but even on the coldest of days, the wood stove puts out enough to keep my heater from kicking on.
You should look to see what EPA is doing before you go off about campfires and cookstoves.
Also there is a post upthread in which a guy says that his EPA-approved stove works better and uses less wood, I guess he’s a shill.
Yes regulations are bad, but most of the people on this thread have not looked at these regulations, don’t know what they say, and either make stuff up or repeat what other people make up about what EPA is doing. You can’t discuss policy or regulation in such an environment, which may be what our wannabe masters want.
It would be a delicious irony if the Second American Revolution was ignited by a ban on wood burning stoves. Ben Franklin would approve.
“We have one of the wood burning fire pits we use on cool nights in the back yard.”
My outdoor fireplace is for the same thing - heating the deck area - it burns wood or charcoal and has a place to put food to cook/grill as well. I bought it for a back up stove to cook and to burn household trash. It is covered so big pieces of burning paper, etc., will not fly out.
“Isnt using charcoal pretty much burning wood twice?”
Technically, it is, who cares?
more drivel
Second Amendment protections were put in place so that citizens could shoot operatives of an oppressive government, not deer.
I always wanted to shoot a communist....an EPA agent is the next best thing.
{...but most of the people on this thread have not looked at these regulations, dont know what they say, and either make stuff up or repeat what other people make up about what EPA is doing”
HERE IS THE ANSWER TO YOU: THE EPA IS INHERENTLY EVIL AND NEEDS TO BE ZOTTED TODAY! Their regulations are a farce, they want to take your stuff and that stuff is anything they decide to take from you.
Since you are supporting these EPA regulations, you have to be obtuse.
Good hunting.
Here’s hoping you bag a 10-pointer.
You can buy mine when I’m done with it, but you’ll have to pay in cash (no checks or credit).
It's rather obfuscating to say the least, and it doesn't seem to include the clause that shows how these non-elected agencies have any authority under the US Constitution. But, hey, they seem like nice folks and we shouldn't not follow their fiats policies. I mean, it's not like they will come in and shut down your business or arrest you for disobedience.
IMHO this is more about making life more difficult for people who live off the government reservations.
Its just another small turn of the screw but eventually laws and prohibitions will make it impossible for people to survive in small towns or remote homesteads.
Sooner or later it will end up with the feds using satellites to identify plumes of smoke or heat sources to locate the last "antisocial" types so they can be relocated to approved areas.
Sounds far fetched, but who ever though a child would be kicked out of school for pointing a finger?
Who ever dreamed that it would be more socially (and legally) acceptable to brag about being a practicing homosexual than to admit you smoked cigarettes?
Back in the day we were able to light a strike-anywhere match one handed with a short flick of a thumbnail.
On these newer matches many are wasted by striking repeatedly to get them to light until the compounds on the end just wear away.
In other words you don’t have an argument.
