Wood Stove Ban Made Universal
http://freepatriot.org ^ | September 30, 2013

For many years, those of us in the Arctic have been fighting the wood stove ban. The use of PM2.5 particulates has been an issue pursued by local agencies as a way to swipe at those who choose to live beyond the borders of traditional civilization. That attack has now extended to the rest of the United States.

In a stunning move, the Environmental Protection Agency decided to ban most of the operational wood stoves in the U.S.

In those places where there is you, God, and nature, the wood stove has represented that one thing that can sustain. Going after local PM2.5 particulates has been one of many methods to attack those who choose to live independent of government. As Off Grid and American Prepper survival report reveals:

The EPA’s new environmental regulations reduce the amount of airborne fine-particle matter from 15 micrograms to 12 micrograms per cubic meter of air.

This means that most wood burning stoves would now fall into a class that would deemed unacceptable under these new draconian measures. The EPA has even launched a nifty new website called Burn Wise to try to sway public opinion.

On their site, while trying to convince people to get rid of their old stoves and buy the new EPA-certified stoves, they state that these older stove must be scrapped and cannot be resold.

So I have to install and maintain this particulate catcher which will be yet another inconvenience that probably could cause a chimney fire? Or buy a new stove?? Screw the EPA!

How much longer are we going to take this?

Let’s shut down the EPA, for good and save the money.

Let’s see -
Government tells me what kind of toilet I can use.
Government tells me what kind of stove I can use.
I suppose next I will have to worry about how many times I break wind every day.
Unless I become a politician. Then I can get a ‘break wind’ waiver.

Burn coal and wood. Put carbon back into the atmosphere, where it belongs to feed the trees. Resist!

Most of us have wood stoves up here, and I’ve got news for the EPA: we ain’t turning them off. Especially, come January. Oh: and we’re all pretty much heavily armed.

In Wisconsin we already have regulations banning the movement of firewood between townships, due to Emerald Beetle infestation.

This will be like the regulations that banned gravity septic systems here. No one will care, but when your system or your stove fails, all that is available is the approved variety. Eventually, the homeowners insurance policies may have waivers(meaning no coverage) for unapproved stoves.

For the septic systems, they just condemned the gravity type and there was a pool you could apply to for help with the cost after the fact (No guarantees of how much assistance, if any). There are already tax credits for the approved wood stoves.

We have an old one. Actually, having a masonry chimney does wonders. In 40 years, I have never seen any black deposits on the snow around our house. There are a lot of old stoves in use out here.

I've been burning firewood on a serious level for almost 12 years and NONE of this has ever reached my knowledge.

This thread, today .. is the very first time I've ever heard of any woodburning regulations.

There’s a big difference between a home-welded drum and a cast iron enameled Jotul stove.

Don’t get sucked into the escapism of DIY when faced with criminalization of fundamental rights via destruction of product supply chain.

I am not worried. I now live in the tropics.

It seems that every time you post you remind us that you live in the Philippines--or wherever it is that you live. Good. Stay there. Others prefer to get four seasons, among the many other benefits of living in the USA.

Living abroad seems to be your major accomplishment in life. Correct me if I'm wrong.

If EPA wood stoves work as well as EPA paint, many in the USA will be very cold very soon. I have been in the NEW house for just over 8 years & have already had to paint some exterior things 2 times.

How quickly can all such wood stoves be replaced? There isn’t that much inventory of such on hand, and there certainly are not that many manufacturers.

Another sweeping boondoggle by the EPA & Obama.

I may be wrong, but doesn’t Obamacare have a section where Obama minions can “inspect” your home? Is that how this will be enforced? If you have a wood or pellet burning stove, then no health care??

Banning wood burning fireplaces can’t be far behind here.

Our reps should be fighting these ridiculous EPA decisions.

is most likely just a drop I the bucket compared to one good forest fire.””””

Yosemite fire is STILL burning. Over 400 sq miles==over 256,000 ACRES. That is over 11,151,360,000 sq feet....Over 11 Trillion sq feet of forest. Cannot even calculate the board feet of lost timber.
