LOS ANGELES (AP) — Protesters rallied in dozens of cities Saturday as part of a global protest against seed giant Monsanto and the genetically modified food it produces, organizers said.
Organizers said "March Against Monsanto" protests were held in 52 countries and 436 cities, including Los Angeles where demonstrators waved signs that read "Real Food 4 Real People" and "Label GMOs, It's Our Right to Know."

… Monsanto.....or at least its friends, recently managed to have an outrageous rider slipped into the 587-page funding bill Congress sent to President Obama.
The rider essentially prohibits the Department of Agriculture from stopping production of any genetically engineered crop once it’s in the ground, even if there is evidence that it is harmful.
That’s a pre-emptive Congressional override of the judicial system, since it is the courts that are most likely to ask the U.S.D.A. to halt planting or harvest of a particular crop.

What does the nobility (Husseins, etc.) care? Apparently, when they’re not shoveling junk food into their troughs, they have their slaves prepare only organic food.

Amazing how the left has demonized Monsanto. There are scores, probably hundreds, of companies developing GM seeds around the world. Demonizing just one of them is classic Alinskyism in action.
I would have hoped that most people here would know better.
The same people favor the biggest federal government possible ... without which Monsanto, ADM and others would not exist because they get so many subsidies and favored tax status, exclusions from lawsuits, etc.
Yep. They would not be able to be such a huge company and monopolize the market without big federal government bully protection from competition.
The words “Genetically Modified” terrify ignorant leftists....they haven’t a clue.

...Not only GMO's, but Monsanto has the 'terminator seed'. This seed produces a plant with no viable seed to reuse for the following year. This seed is sold primarily in 3rd work regions desperate for food. AND - Here in the USA Monsanto patrols the heartland looking for farmers trying to reuse the seed they bought. Farmers are hit heavy with fines if they save seed for the next year. Monsanto has bought many small seed companies and now controls a large market share of our food supply. Follow their rules, or pay
... Monsanto seeds require the application of the Round-up chemicals to activate features; this way farmers have to buy the seeds AND the chemicals to spray on them!
... if GM seeds are no big deal then why all the fuss against labeling? Why not let consumers make their own choice? Why spend nearly $6 million on lobbying for the "Monsanto Protection Act," which was written anonymously, passed in secret, and allows Monsanto to keep selling genetically engineered seeds even if a federal court says they may pose a health risk?..
Monsanto has bought worldwide influence to prevent anyone from questioning them in a legal forum.
If they are so proud of their gmo crops, why are they afraid to label it in stores?
Let everyone who wants to eat gmo crops do so knowingly. Let everyone who wants to avoid eating gmo crops have the knowledge to do so. Seems fair.
Around here, an Amish farmer threw some gmo corn out by the edge of the woods and even the dear won’t eat it... If they don’t want it, I sure don’t.
I've had this discussion on here before. The answer was, essentially, "Adding a small label that says 'GMO' would be far too burdensome on companies and drive them out of business."
So now we know.
I am very uncomfortable allowing increased centralization and control of food supplies by uber-corporations.
Food supplies like politics is best controlled at the local level.
