WASHINGTON - US President Barack Obama on Saturday personally led his government’s response to Hurricane Irene, marshalling top officials and visiting a disaster command center as the storm roared ashore.
Obama greeted officials at the National Response Coordination Center (NRCC) set up at the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) headquarters in Washington, and then held a video conference with federal and state officials.

It’s important to know what the Federal responsibilities are and what the Federal rules are.
For example, in Katrina, the Feds could do nothing unless Governor Blanco asked specifically for actions. She did nothing, authorized only cleanup, and when the FEMA personnel and trucks waited at teh Louisiana state line, the media blamed Bush for inaction.
So Obama is “leading” disaster response now? Without specific letters of authorization, all he can do is pose for pictures in a “command center”.
Although he DID promise to make the oceans stop rising...
