Approximately 65 million people are likely to be directly impacted by Hurricane Irene as the storm takes aim at the densely populated Eastern Seaboard. Evacuations are underway for high flood risk areas.
Mass transit cancellations, schedule changes and road/bridge closures are occurring throughout the storm warning areas. Please check with local news and Emergency Management Operations to determine the recommendations for your immediate area.

we really need a like button on FR!
:)
Oh sorry I didn’t mean to miss any.. which states are not listed?
I am on the ground floor and the only one with tape on my windows...I’m sure my neighbors are having a good chuckle.
I was looking for that video! Thanks. It’s a hoot.
I also seem to recall a screen shot from the Weather Channel where the reporter had his windbreaker hood tied up around his face, and his face all scrunched up as if he were in some massive storm. Behind him were people in t-shirts and sunglasses leaning on the boardwalk railing, calm as could be.
As long as the cell towers stay online I can stay online..
VABeach area is still getting hammered.
The eye coming even with us is due just as high tide will be hitting, so things are expected to get pretty dicey around here within the next hour or so.
I once planted 5 chokecherry shrubs and then was transfered 6 months later . Chokecherry jelly and syrup are my hubbies favorite . Never tried the brandy .
The strongest winds are in a blob over the ocean, not wrapped around a central core. Irene is now, for all intents and purposes, a very, very large Nor'easter.

Here is a great place to get blueberry wine (their Kir is awesome too.)
They do ship.
NHC says that winds a few hundred feet above the ground are much stronger - so New York could still get 90 MPH winds hitting the Manhattan buildings, even if the surface level winds have dropped to tropical storm strength.
Thank you for filling in parts of the states that were omitted from the original list.
Tornado touched down in Vineland.
(btw...even if it HAD been a stock photo....i'm still impressed!)
Thank you for that picture. It gives me a lump in my throat. Such dedication to their purpose, and thru any weather — no matter what. Remarkable men!
Yes! The Red Sox are up 3-0 in the bottom of the 6th vs the Oakland A's. In Game 1 earlier today, the Sox won 9-3. The A's clobbered the Sox, though, in the Friday night game: 5-15.
Overall the Red Sox are doing well... they're #1 in the American League East, for now anyway.
I usually have my glass of Resveratrol just before I go to bed, but tonight Im thinking of being on storm watch so might make it a double TOMORROW night!
Resveratrol? I'm not sure I know what that is...
A double of anything alcholic sounds good for tomorrow night, FRiend! ;-)
I hope and pray you and Mr. Exit148 and your family stay safe and sound, and that Irene fizzles before she hits the northeast... take care.
Hey guys, am I missing something? I’m in southern Connecticut looking at the radar in motion. It looks like in the last hour or two all the heavy rain that was bearing down on us is dissipating. The heavy stuff now is all to the west. There is not that much in the upper right quadrant.
We’ve had very little rain so far and it looks like we are not going to get that much overnight.
Looks like we out of that large band that was hitting us. Moderate rain and wind right now. Power is on.
