Approximately 65 million people are likely to be directly impacted by Hurricane Irene as the storm takes aim at the densely populated Eastern Seaboard. Evacuations are underway for high flood risk areas.
Mass transit cancellations, schedule changes and road/bridge closures are occurring throughout the storm warning areas. Please check with local news and Emergency Management Operations to determine the recommendations for your immediate area.

It’s been raining pretty steadily here in NE PA for about an hour & a half. Breeze stiffening a bit.
Heard some thunder a little while ago.
Been pretty much hunkered down since yesterday - there was no place to go :)
Some of the nonsense on this thread is really getting to me, especially the crapola coming from people no where in any of the affected regions. I know what is going on outside my front door and don’t need some yahoo no where need the area telling me I don’t know what I’m talking about.
thanks...OUr thoughts and prayers are with you all up there.
this kind of hurricaine can make life so difficult for the average citizen....
But Fear not! Our Dear Leader is at the Hurricaine Command Center!ha.
those men are truly amazing.
sounds good!
I never knew you could use chokeberries that way!
GOD Bless that Soldier AND those he is protecting! AMEN
Times Square Cam bookmarked.
I hope you are on a lower floor or have friends who are.
Power started to go out. Turned off TV and AC just in case.
Thanks much for checking in. Glad to know you are prepared for the worst. Now we will hope for the best. Please keep us updated when you can. Since your husband must work tonight, we’ll keep you company.

Tropical Cycloses. This happens when thunderstorm activity starts building close to [a] center of circulation, and the strongest winds and rain are no longer in a band far from the center. The core of the storm becomes warm, and the cyclone derives all of its energy from the "latent heat" released when water vapor that has evaporated from warm ocean waters condenses into liquid water. One does not find warm fronts or cold fronts associated with a tropical cyclone.
Note that tropical storms regularly become extratropical storms when they get close enough to the pole to get caught up in a front.
[There's also a 'subtropical cyclone', but let's not confuse the issue any further!] :]
There are 2 other states directly being affected by this storm that you seem to have omitted from your list of links.............and I know for a fact both are undergoing power outages at the moment.
When I heard Shep said something wisecracking about the mayor, I tuned in. Found him quite entertaining. He was sounding out to watch out “Speonk” like the train conductors say it.
typooo.... “CycloNes’, obviously.
Flooding is serious business. How quickly we all forget things like this,

LOL! That was a classic.
Thanks, REH. If Dear Leader thinks he’s going to come to NY and tell us what to do, he’s got another thing coming. ;)
