NH Mother Uses Child as a Prop to Question Rick Perry on Evolution
ABC News ^ | August 18, 2011 | Michael Falcone,Arlette Saenz - The Note

Posted on 08/18/2011 8:33:03 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

Among the protestors at this morning's meet and greet in Portsmouth, N.H., a mother used her child as a prop to confront Rick Perry about his beliefs on evolution and science.

The mother pushed her son towards Perry and insisted he ask the governor about the age of the earth.

"How old do I think the earth is? You know what, I don't have any idea," Perry said. "I know it's pretty old so it goes back a long long way. I'm not sure anybody actually knows completely and absolutely how long, how old the earth is."

While Perry was answering the child's question, the mother continued to loudly whisper in the child's ear to ask him about evolution and why he doesn't believe in science.

"Here your mom was asking about evolution, and you know it's a theory that's out there, and it's got some gas in it. In Texas we teach both creationsim and evolution in our public schools," Perry said. "Because I figure you're smart enough to figure out which one is right."

If the mother was a conservative, she'd make an excellent Freeper.

“You know son, the way some people act, it does sometimes seem that they evolved from monkeys ... and not too long ago! Now son, on another question...do you like gladiator movies?”

During my stay this summer in Alaska when we would find the Suburu and volkswagons out on the trails we would spin our four wheeler mud all over the vehicles and leave our spent shell casings around the vehicles as well. Every durn one of them had a coexist and other green bumper stickers on them.

It seemed we would be out on the trails seeing the beautiful country and would come accross one of those vehicles with pup tent behind it. Usually as far back as road vehicle could go. It always ruined my “Alaska wilderness experience” so we figured we’d leave them some mud and shell casings and we would try to find a caribou or moose bone to leave at thier “camp” on the way out.

And you’d lose a bunch of GOP votes for that, in the primary, and probably also in the general.

MANY more in the general. It's best not to go into detail on that subject. I think he answered the questions well.

He’s right. The evangelical position is that no one can really say. Some still go by the Ussher dates (computed in the 17th century) that pinpoint creation at 4004 B.C. But these days most conservative scholars acknowledge that the time spans provided in the book of Genesis skip a lot of years. Those who don’t think the earth is millions of years old are willing to posit an age that is many thousands more than 6,000. It’s not just a choice between (a) and (b).

I’m guessing this woman drives a Volvo with bumper stickers all over it.

Lefties like this infest the NH seacoast area. UNH, a major leftist institute, is located very close to Portsmouth.

To be fair I think these people tend to prefer SAAB cars and yes, older SAABs are plastered with all kinds of marxist bumper stickers. The "NHPR" and "NPR" stickers are mandatory for all progressive/marxist drivers.

“Well, Bobby, as you can see by the video clip, your Mom is trying to take Mr. Science’s place by asking questions about how old the earth is. Now, your Mom says she’s 25, so we see that time can’t be trusted, or at least your mother can’t be trusted. And I say that’s a safe assumption since you don’t look anything like your Dad, but you bear an absolutely uncanny resemblance to the old UPS driver. How old is the earth? Well, the only way to truly know is to make another one and then you have a starting point for how it ages. Maybe your Mom can make another earth. Maybe that’s what she was doing when she told the UPS man that he made the earth move for her.Remember fans, Mr. Science will be at Harrison Avenue Mall this weekend giving away globes and looking for Bobby’s mother.”

Another thing they like to do is leave prior election stickers on them.

That's cuz they don't maintain their cars, and the stickers are the only things holding them together.

Actually each day represents an age....not a 24 hour day.

Why exactly do liberals think a candidate’s religion is a relevant campaign issue?
///
umm... a few conservatives do also.
i’d vote for a truly conservative Mormon. but, religion IS one factor. and i would never vote for a practicing devout Muslim, no matter what he said in speeches...

(and it was a good diplomatic politician answer by Perry.
but i wish he had the courage to state he believes evolution is wrong.
i admire people who have the courage of their convictions,
and true faith, even if i disagree with them.)

and MetaThought makes a great point, about the truth costing votes.
but we rightly condemn libs like Obama,
for hiding his true marxist beliefs, during the campaign.
Perry is smart enough, to state honestly his true beliefs,
and yet point out (as he did), that Texas teaches both, etc.

i think Bachmann has the courage to answer a child’s question directly.
and so does Sarah Palin:

‘Going Rogue’: Is Sarah Palin a creationist?
In ‘Going Rogue,’ Sarah Palin says she is a creationist,
rejecting Darwin’s theory of evolution.
www.csmonitor.com

(these 2 ladies have the courage of their convictions.
they don’t need to “man up”. and i don’t think the 2 ladies have praised Islam,
or quoted from the Quran approvingly...)

I personally know two or three of the biggest scientists (who are also Christians) on both sides of the young earth vs old earth question.

http://www.icr.org

So far, I’ve seen that the young earthers are more honest than the old age people.

It’s very similar in the scientific sense to the “global warming” issue.

The warmers have tended to be either followers, or deceivers, or both. The “skeptics” have tended to be more courageous and honest, IMHO.

Not long ago someone here on FR posted a fantastic bit of info on Werner von Braun (sp?) and his life, work and beliefs. Perry would do well to quote him.
