The GOP Focuses on Holder and Ignores Mexico's Drug War as Operation Fast and Furious Scandal Grows
foxnews.com ^ | 13 July, 2011 | Juan Williams

The daily horror of mass murder in Mexico hit the U.S. Congress last week in the form of scandal. Sadly, the scandal is not about the incredible loss of life in the drug wars. Instead, Republicans in Congress are busy targeting their least favorite member of the Obama cabinet, Attorney General Eric Holder.

The right has had it in for Holder ever since he managed the controversial pardon of fugitive Marc Rich in the Clinton Justice Department. As attorney general, Holder has angered it further by pushing to have civilian trials instead of military tribunals for alleged terrorists, including Khalid Sheik Mohammed.

Holder has also left the door open to the possible prosecution of CIA agents who implemented coercive interrogations during the Bush Administration. He also upset conservatives in some racially charged cases, refusing to prosecute both ACORN and, in a separate case, two members of the New Black Panthers who were caught on videotape apparently intimidating voters outside a Philadelphia polling station.

Now some in the GOP think they have new ammunition in pursuit of Holder.

Recent congressional testimony indicates that some of the 15,000 drug-related murders in Mexico last year may have been committed with weapons provided to the drug cartels with the help of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

The ATF, which is part of the Justice Department, allegedly allowed some 2,000 firearms to be sold to associates of Mexican drug cartels and transported across the border back to Mexico as part of Operation Fast and Furious.

The idea was that ATF would be able to trace the firearms back to their original buyers, enabling them to arrest and prosecute members of the drug cartels. The operation spun wildly out of control and less than half of the firearms have been accounted

The left is really strange. What does he want the congress to do about the wars in Mexico? Somehow, because Mexico has horrible problems, we shouldn't prosecute a criminal conspiracy in the Department of Justice?

When someone in politics says "its for the children, it is political pedophilia.

I don’t buy the whole “drug war” line anyway. Its an anarchist state with crime out of control and everyone struggling for power.

According to the TSA some 10,000 commercial loads were highjacked in Mexico last year. Some of them were explosive or highly toxic materials.

“Now some in the GOP think they have new ammunition in pursuit of Holder. “

Holder is complicent in the murder of US citizens. How much ammunition does one need to point the finger directly at the guilty one?

What Juan Williams did is what a liberal/progressive/socialist/dimocrat always does when his position has been exposed as totally indefensible - change the discussion. While he hasn't go so far, yet, to call people that oppose his positions liars, Nazis, or racists he is getting there.

Juan - Mexico has been a failed nation governed by rotations of dictators since the middle of the 19th Century. There is, unfortunately, no way to turn around 150 years of this political background. Remember that Mexico has been run by a single political party during most of the 20th Century.

I am so embarrassed and disappointed for/in Juan. He used to have discussions where he would make valid points from the Left. Now he is ALWAYS spouting Dem talking points. And NOTHING else. ‘Tea Party Republicans’, ‘extreme’, ‘shared sacrifice’, etc. It's like he checked his brain into the Dem Cloakroom and lost the retrieval ticket.

The best thing we can do about Mexico’s drug war is absolutely seal the border.

First of all, Juan...

Holder pissed on the CIA. You don't mess with the CIA. They will pay you back..in some way or another

Second of all, this operation was a multi agency operation that very likely included the CIA.

How will that play out.

Did the CIA tell Holder to walk those guns. Won't that be interesting to see who gets knived in the back if that is the case.Or did the CIA just come along for the ride.

It didn't just happen in one or two cities. It has happened in multiple cities.

It was a nation wide policy

Third of all, multiple Drug cartels at war with each other received those guns. And at least one jailed Drug Kingpin claims he was a CIA asset. Shades of Davila. Look it up , Juan. You want to talk about deaths, Juan. Your buddies hooked up those drug cartels. Now just why would a jailed Drug Kingpin not be allowed to talk to anyone but hs attorney and jail personnel above a certain rank..and have to be rotated between 4 jail cells...and not be allowed outside. Is someone worried he will talk???

Then there is this email

Holder is going down. You can bet on it. The question is whether he ends up in a jail cell or just resigns his job.

It's coming , Juan.

The wheels turn slowly but are gaining momentum.

We are doing something about it. We’re working out who is responsible and prosecuting them for criminal acts which left scores dead. What more do ya want?

I don’t buy the whole “drug war” line anyway.

I do believe there is a semblance of reality in the "drug war" but the war exists on our side of the border. By that I mean, our corrupt politicians are fighting over their share of the bribes from the cartels to enact laws favorable to drug smuggling and to assure current laws regarding border security are not enforced. Our corrupt government officials are in partnership with the cartels, plain and simple and they are operating with full immunity under the cover of law.

I read only partway through this drivel and wondered, “Who in the hell wrote this stupidity, Juan Williams?” So I read the heading and GUESS WHO WROTE IT?
Each afternoon I listen to Hannity...unil the instant I hear Juan WIlliams voice...then instant “OFF”.
It’s not that I disagree with him, I just refuse to have my intelligence insulted.

Juan Williams has fooled conservatives for years. He's as lefty as they come....but his marxist propaganda is deftly cloaked in what some folks persistently fall for.... a soft, quiet, earnest, agreeable, non-threatening, winsome, almost boyish media personality.

Be not deceived, true capitalism, freedom and non-statism are not mocked.

Juan has always had the ability to adjust his anti-freedom, anti-capitalism, pro-engorged government, pro-Obama ideology to the times and to whom he's working for at the moment. At any given time, he can be quietly radical or pleasantly middle-of-the-road....or anything you can live with as your favorite leftist.

He's parlayed this innate ability to be the perfect ideological chameleon and house liberal into an income of multi-millions of dollars. Sheeples in this country LOVE to feed the enemy hand that bites them as long as the hand is "reasonable", sincere-sounding, non-threatening and soft-spoken....and Juan Williams is probably one of the best examples of this in the TV punditry world today.

Like his frequent host, Bill O'Reilly (a statist liberal and populist gasbag), the consumate leftist Williams is one of TV's most successful phonies.

But, remember, to be fair and balanced we can relax our guard because both of these concerned hucksters are lookin' out for us folks!

(....like we can't look out for ourselves).

The whole purpose of this article is to advocate that the head of ATF Kenneth Melson should be the fall guy.

How does not pursuing Holder help Mexican children. Straw man.
