BOSTON (CBS) — So many times has Jessica Shepherd helped others, says her mother: as a flight crew chief for Marine helicopters in Iraq and more recently at Costal Carolina ...
Now, Jessica has a rare and aggressive form of esophageal cancer; tumors have fractured her spine and she needs a private flight to Boston for treatment because she could not stand the vibration of a helicopter or a regular commercial flight.

I’ve heard nothing but good things about Dana Farber. She’s in good hands.

Father, be with Jessica in this trying time. Help us to save her, as she has helped to save others.
Be with her, and her family, and help them to overcome any pain and anguish in their hearts.
If it is Your Will, keep her safe and close to you, and bring her through all necessary operations. Bring her back to those who still need her.

Don’t know. Maybe because of the kind of cancer it is ... maybe because Dana Farber has more experience in this kind of cancer ...
I don’t think I want to ask her husband or parents that question right now. They are making what they believe are the best decisions for her.
Last night, I talked with a friend who is a physician, but not connected with my niece’s case.
This kind of cancer is very agressive and very deadly. It will take a miracle to save her. Oh, Lord Jesus, please help!
He said something interesting, though. He said that the medical profession has been seeing more of these agressive types of cancers in younger and younger patients. My doctor friend himself has a sister in her mid-thirties with a very agressive breast cancer. He says that she had a physical just a few months ago and there was no trace. In that short time, this cancer developed and metasticized to her liver bones. Her prognosis is very bad.
My niece’s cancer developed the same way. She was fine a few months ago when she had her baby, and this thing developed suddenly and metasticized rapidly.
My freind would not offer a prognosis, since he is not connected with the case, but he did say to pray for a miracle.

A 16 year old boy who was a friend of a friend recently died of colon cancer. Colon cancer! In a 16 year old boy!
Cancer is nothing more than your own body cells mutating and growing out of control. There is a line of thought that it is caused by various viruses. Unfortunately there are thousands of viruses in the human genome alone. Most are benign but sometimes they aren’t.
I wonder if there’s some sort of connection. Prayers are continuing.
