They can't do that at the newest (3yrs old) super Wal-Mart in my town. It used to be open 24/7 it now closes at 11 or 12 pm.
They had more stuff being stolen than their sales!

The only people I’ve seen at Walmart after 11pm were toddlers. The occasional neglectful parent, of course, but they’re few and far between.
Just the other day at Walmart there was a kid screaming at the top of his lungs in Spanish, and after about five minutes of the mother doing nothing, I went over and leaned down and put my finger to my lips and opened my eyes wide and went “SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.”
And guess what he did? He shut up!
Also, if kidnappers aren’t going to Walmart, they’re missing a fish-in-a-barrel situation.

Thank you... I now know to avoid walmart on the first of the month. I already know to avoid it late at night, if not in general.

First of the month has always been busy in areas that have high populations that rely on government assistance.
I don’t know how long the midnight shopping has been going on, but I bet it’s not that new.

And not-so-basic items like steak, shrimp, etc. Then take a $100 bill out of their pocket, hand it to their significant other to buy smokes and booze (or complain about liquor laws after midnight.)
When those on "gub'mint assistance" eat better than I do, it's time to change the rules.

The EBT users I see late at night certainly don’t have their carts filled with “baby formula, bread, milk and eggs”. Try chips, pop, candy and junk food.
I watched one tattooed, pierced-from-head-to-toe, 20ish girl with three young kids unloading her cart and never did see three ingredients you could possibly string together to make an honest meal for those little kids.

Perhaps they are out at midnight because they don’t have anywhere to be the next morning and they usually get up at noon.
There is an entire class of people who get up in the afternoon and go to bed in the wee hours. Because Why NOT.
This man doesnt know them.

I learned a similar lesson in 2001 at a skating rink in Chula Vista. The first Friday night of the month was different from other visits. The parking lot was full of armed off duty cops. I purchased a ticket and entered the building. Whoa! It was wall to wall black people. You could barely walk on the floor. Skate? You've got to be kidding. I left the building to ask for a refund. The best they would do is a rain check for a future Friday night. I asked the cops what was going on. It's "mom's night". The first Friday night of the month is when the welfare moms dump their kids at the skating rink. The monthly government check has arrived. I returned the following Friday night. The normal regulars were present. That included about 20 black skaters who are a very skilled and enjoyable part of the regular crowd.

assistance from the government for buying electronics???!!!
I didn’t know about this. I’ll get mad later...
Anyways, back in the 1980s I worked at a Burger King in a big city while I was in college. We were always ready for ‘welfare day’ and had triple the normal amount of workers.

adjusting pack sizes
Yeah. Less content. Same package size. Same or higher package price.
Many food packagers have been doing that for decades.
Remember when the large can of coffee was actually 3-pounds or 48 ounces?

Here's what Walmart could do that would help everyone get the size package they need ( take hamburger as an example)
Have pre-measured patties in packages of one, two, four, and six. You want a small serving for eight? But two ‘fours’. Want servings for five people? Buy a four and a one... Same with ham, steak, ribs, vegetables etc.
The elderly seldom need 8 chicken legs or 10 hot dogs... Younger poorer families would like some variety - not forced to eat so much of the same because of package size. Only Walmart knows how to do this right...

Which reminds me of an interview given by Democrat Congresswoman Maxine Waters after Hurricane Katrina hit.
One of the things she said, and I am paraphrasing here, is that it was a shame the Hurricane hit before the first of the month when most of the New Orleans residents get their Government checks.
I kid you not.
