More than two dozen cases of locally-acquired dengue fever have hit the resort town of Key West , Fla., in the past nine months, officials from the U.S Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said.

A little more specific than "people".
Ever hear of a town called Belle Glade?
A big THANK YOU to the immigrants, legal and ILLEGAL, who are bringing this disease into America, previously unknown within our borders. Isn’t unregulated immigration great!
Illegals, spreading the diseases Americans just won’t spread.
Oops, that’s racist.
I remember... a sound off in the distance...

Some one would yell, "You hear that everybody? Smoke man's coming! Let's go!"
Your comment that there are “no mosquitos in Florida” was misleading, at best. I was pointing out the increase here in Bay County....and we are thankful everyday that NW Florida is not like South Florida:)
You are misquoting me and I think you know that. Go back and read the post you responded to. I never said NO mosquitoes. Here is what I said:
I QUOTE:
Besides its the dry season, not many mosquitoes .
See that NOT MANY, NOT NO.
and I, sure that many in the SW and SE FL regions are thankful that they aren’t in NW Florida, especially in the winter when it’s below freezing there and in the summer when we can dive the reefs and get lobster in turquoise, crystal clear waters. :) Don’t bother to reply again, because I won’t be.
My father had Dengue fever on Bougainville in WWII. He never forgot it.
Clearly written as a "cover your ass".
A competent journalist would have checked and not written in this accusatory fashion.
I thought you got bald when your brain expanded forcing the bottom of the hair follicles out
Figures this crap would show up when I am exiled on this god forsaken SE coast.
Lived in Phoniex for 13 years, probably got 12 mosquito bites in that time. I think I have got 10 just sitting here posting on the internet this morning.
WHY, WHY do people live here????
This was an interesting case, because while doctors in southern Arizona had been notified to be on the lookout for Dengue coming up from Mexico, doctors in central AZ had received no such alerts.
The girl ended up going to no fewer than five doctors, none of whom had a clue. Then finally, after a relatively short Internet search, there was a 13-for-13 symptoms match for Dengue. So she asked the sixth doctor to do a test for it. Bingo.
But the mystery remained for a while as to how a mosquito could have flown up from Mexico just for her? But the answer was obvious. She and her boyfriend lived in apartments right next to some railroad tracks. The mosquito had hitched a ride.
Otherwise, with the building of the Tempe town lake, whose rubber dam just burst a few days ago, there was great concern as to the potential of several mosquito-borne diseases. St. Louis and Equine encephalitis and West Nile virus being of most concern.
But the day was saved by all of a sudden, a surfeit of dragonflies. And thus endeth the mosquito problem for quite a while.
I mention this, because not too long ago, I discovered that there are professional dragonfly breeders. No idea how much they cost per head, but you might consider starting your own herd.
You will see them but they aren’t hard to avoid. As it sounds like you may know. Are you in the metro area? I miss it so, so much. And if you can miss Phoenix in July, you know you belong there. (:
Interesting about the dragonfly breeding.
Just got some pictures of the collapsed Tempe town lake.
Now how could they have possibly guessed that pressurized rubber dams, in 140F river bottom temperatures, under intense exposure to UV light and concentrated ozone, would be prone to decay?
I wonder if the fools will propose a tax increase to buy another 1 billion gallons of water to refill it?
So, the area looks like it did when I first came to the area in 1997? I hope they refill it though, it’s prettier.
Yep. Lived in Ahwatukee/Phoenix & Yuma for years. Could keep our screen door wide open and not a bug to be found. In So. Fl, just coming into the house would let in 3-4 skeeters.
It’s one among many reasons why we got out of So. FL in 2004.
where are you now if you don’t mind me asking?
Yeah, not a big fan of the east coast. I went to school in Florida and detested every, single second I was there. Hell on earth.
I still have a house outside of Durango in the high dessert. I will be back in that area just not sure how long I will be exiled here. I am thinking two years. Two reallly, reallly long years.
In the Dallas area. It’s been humid as all get-out this summer. Our pool is around 94 degrees. Horrible - blech.
