Politico's Allen: 'Absurd' For Voters To Kick Out Reid, Bennett
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 05/13/2010 6:30:41 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

Enraged voters, too dumb to appreciate the purveyors of pork . . .

That was Mike Allen's complaint on Morning Joe today. Politico's chief political correspondent labelled "absurd" the decision of Utah and Nevada voters not to re-elect Bob Bennett [done deal] and Harry Reid [likely goner]. And why is it such a bad mistake? Because Bennett and Reid are proven pork providers for their states.

Allen offered his analysis in response to Mike Barnicle's suggestion that in the current political climate, bringing home the bacon might actually backfire on politicians.

States should create their own pork

There should not even be Federal pork.

Perhaps the people of the states are starting to value their freedom more than their pork.

This just doesn’t occur to the left, who don’t understand true liberty.

I’ve seen numerous lefties stating, in bewilderment and denigration: “why do conservatives vote against their own interests?”

“I’ve never seen a dollar of that pork nor been the beneficiary of that pork. The only thing pork has done for me is make me pay more taxes...”

Excellent point. Sheets Bird is probably the king of pork. He has buried WV in it, got his name on many projects in the state. How much have those who keep him elected gotten? I dare say ‘nothing’. WV is one of the poor states. Those electing him are likely the poor. But what do they get?

Stick to Article I Section 8 and let the States, themselves, pay for their own pork.

10th Amendment as well as the rest of the letter and spirit of the Constitution is a lost concept to this totalitarian from Politico (And yes, Allen probably thinks is is not a totalitarian but actions PROVE otherwise).

Thinking people know what “bringing home the bacon” usually means: Make work projects with a leftist bent & jobs for the relatives, friends, & supporters of the pol, all paid for by our hard earned tax dollars.

Furthermore, these ancient incumbents have taken on an air of privilege & hubris, which turns the stomach of decent people. I can't think of one incumbent that cannot be replaced by a better person.

It has little to do with Pubs or Rats, left or right, & everything to do with the “too big to fail” attitude of our pols. Bennett, Crist, & Specter are perfect examples of this.

VOTE THEM ALL OUT!

Mark Critz still has a shot at Murtha’s old seat because people around here actually buy that line of reasoning (Government Pork brings Jobs to the area, so it’s a good thing)

That, and the fact that two pubbies are running in the pubbie primary, which is on the same day as the special election. Many voters will split their primary vote and not vote in the special election, and the demonRAT will win this special election.

Yes, that was Ed Rendell’s evil but effective design

So now the MSM (Politico is part of that) wants to tell people who to vote for and then tell us we’re stupid not to?

That's correct. And - on November 3rd - we will be told the electorate had a temper tantrum.

We could write the narrative right now they are so predictable.
