Politico's Allen: 'Absurd' For Voters To Kick Out Reid, Bennett
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 05/13/2010 6:30:41 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

Enraged voters, too dumb to appreciate the purveyors of pork . . .

That was Mike Allen's complaint on Morning Joe today. Politico's chief political correspondent labelled "absurd" the decision of Utah and Nevada voters not to re-elect Bob Bennett [done deal] and Harry Reid [likely goner]. And why is it such a bad mistake? Because Bennett and Reid are proven pork providers for their states.

Allen offered his analysis in response to Mike Barnicle's suggestion that in the current political climate, bringing home the bacon might actually backfire on politicians.

So now the MSM (Politico is part of that) wants to tell people who to vote for and then tell us we’re stupid not to?

So the “Ruling Class” cannot be voted out!

If this were 1776, he (many now in this country) would not have sided with the “Patriots”.

Yeah, I guess the brilliant new idea of the MSM is to shout in voter’s faces that they are stupid.

Duh.

I’m indifferent on whether a socialist “brings home the pork” or allows another congresscritter to do so. If they are significant contributors to the massive $1.7T deficit waste at the federal level, it’s time for them to go. Reid is evil, while Bennett has simply been captured by the system so that he tolerates and compromises with evil. Either way, they contribute to the destruction of my country, and I’m happy to wish them a pleasant (and taxpayer funded) retirement.

Yah know, I keep hearing this argument lately that you have to re-elect these guys because they provide ‘pork’ for your state. With all due respect, I’ve never seen a dollar of that pork nor been the beneficiary of that pork. The only thing pork has done for me is make me pay more taxes so some politician in another state can spend my money on some obscure project whose only benefit is to the cronies and yes-men who support those politicians.

That is the basic problem. For far too long, "taking care of your constituents" is solely comprised of shoveling pork their way..."bread and circuses".

Taking care of your constituents should mean providing a small and effective federal government, doing what it is supposed to be doing, providing for the common defense, not becoming a nanny state and keeping an ever-increasing slice of the populace in bondage.

Americans have to stop being easily bribed.

Maybe Mike Allen is too dumb to appreciate the foresight of people who can see what lies beyond pork. Greed, corruption, selfishness, and fiscal irresponsibility are what drive voters to accept pork.

OH bull$hit. Nevada has ranked in the forties almost all of Reid’s tenure for pork.

Sorry we are going to get rid of Reid and 75-100 of his ilk if you like it or not.

Because Bennett and Reid are proven pork providers for their states.

This is at the heart of all that is wrong with our current political mindset. POLITICIANS ARE NOT TO BE PROVIDERS!

(bringing home the bacon might actually backfire)

I would prefer politicians who would just leave the bacon
at home and cut out the middle man.
