WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama will deliver the eulogy Sunday for the 29 miners who died in a coal mine explosion earlier this month.
The service, announced today by West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin, will be held in Beckley, W.Va., and will include prayers, musical performances, tributes to the miners, and remarks from Mr. Manchin and other dignitaries.
Vice President Joe Biden will join the president to participate in the service, according to a White House news release issued today.
The service will be held at the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center, at 200 Armory Drive in Beckley, at 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Seats are open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis.

If he sincerely shares in the grief and makes appropriate comments, maybe it won’t be a political statement.
But, everywhere he goes, he goes to make his statements.
We’ll see.
It is the theater of the absurd. A man who can’t be bothered to make an appearance at any sort of memorial for his grandmother after her death, decides he is the apt “performer”(we are in a theatrical production, afterall) to eulogize men who were hard-working, honorable miners so extraordinarily different from Obama. The canard may be a reaction to his flippant golf outing as soon as he was free from attending the funeral of the Polish president. He needs the gravitas of another funeral to make him appear somber and caring. There is nothing caring about Obama; he is all absurd theater and posing. His appearance to deliver a eulogy is crass and disgusting theatrics and dishonors the dead in the most disingenuous and calculating manner. Obama has no shame and no scruples.
That’s great. A con-man and a liar speaking at a funeral of hard-working honest men. Just great.
He loves the spotlight more than Al Sharpton or Jessie Jackson.
I just can’t imagine what Obama could say after villanizing the mine owner, declaring coal bad for the planet, and then if he caps and trades the mine out of existence, the mining community becomes “bitter clingers”.
I admit my bias. I find him so false, insincere, and self-important I would probably give him the Dick Cheney look.
I hope it is a comfort for the families and friends. And again, condolences for those good people.
As he bids them fairwell under the watchcare of a Savior he doesn’t really believe in.
I’m thinking similar thoughts. Zer0 may be delivering an eulogy to the miners, but on his agenda is being able to say the eulogy to the US coal mining industry. This disaster is giving him the justification to regulate the mines until they just can’t operate. Just watch.
I wouldn't be surprised if Obama doesn't wind up doing this on the anniversary date of when Bill Clinton traveled to Oklahoma City and did the same thing at the memorial to those killed in the OKC bombings. That was the most shameful, despicable case of political grandstanding on the bodies of the dead and murdered I have ever seen, but I'm sure Obama will top it.
I don’t think those WV boys are going to like this.
So very well said.
Does Obama even know there was a tragic mine accident??? Nice of him to acknowledge it.
Well said indeed
Photo Op?
Shame, shame, shame on him. Most of the union members there will probably be thrilled though.
Obama’s ZOMBIES!....
he ate C-span up today!...........Shuuuuuuuush!
Outstanding post. The blasphemer wastes no time profaning the deceased and mocking grieving families. For the Poles it was his trip to the golf course. For the miners, it will be an in-your-face "eulogy", Obamaspeak for "malediction".
While he’s there, maybe they can take him in another part of the mine where smoking is permitted (Hehehe). That Bucking Fastard... I would be miffed beyond all reason that I busted my azz in a mine my entire life and Obama does my eulogy? No thanks.
Will he do a better job than he did at Fort Hood?
