Out of a nation of more than three hundred million Americans, only forty-two threats against Congressmen and Senators were reported in the first three months of this year. However, the Democrats and the news media have made it seem like Congress is under siege from right wing Tea Party terrorists ready to slaughter representatives over the health care takeover bill.
The Washington Post reported tonight that threats have increased "nearly threefold" over the fifteen threats received in the last three months of 2009.
The Post headlined the article with the ominous sounding "Anger over health-care reform spurs rise in threats against Congress members".
The Post cites Senate Sergeant at Arms Terrance W. Gainer as the source for the numbers. Gainer also described the nature of the threats:
"The incidents ranged from very vulgar to serious threats, including death threats," Gainer said. "The ability to carry them out is another question and part of an investigation to determine what, if any, appropriate steps to take."
Gainer told The Post that 'nearly all of the (42) recent threats appear to come from opponents of the health-care overhaul' and that House members were targeted "significantly more" than Senators.
Statistically speaking, 42 threats over three months out of a pool of 300 hundred million is insignificant. Even if one were to include only the pool of the tens of millions of Tea Party participants around the country it is still statistically insignificant.
If the 42 threats came from CNN's Anderson Cooper's prime demo audience of 25,000, then there might be cause for concern.
The Washington Post may think they are helping the Democrats fan the flames of anti-Tea Party hysteria by publishing their article about a slight increase in the slight number of threats, but what they have done is show how peaceful and respectful are 99.999999 percent of the Tea Party participants.
“I dont know, but Ill bet GWB got a lot of threats written in crayon, with lots of misspelled words.”
But enough about Barney Frank’s memos...
Just think about the significance of the threat posed by the dems in Congress! Not only to every single one of current voters (and TEA party members), but to our children and grandchildren.
Increased number of threats or increased reporting of threats. Big difference.
Excellent reporting, kristinn. Far better than the state-run propagandists that feed lies to most of the country.
Thanks for digging in to this. I was curious as to what the numbers were.

“A few years ago the media put a cross-hair target on Bush and thought little of it.”
The RAT press is evil.
That is too funny--probably because it's true.
UH HUH...yet the cindy Sheehan vicious threateners were allowed to assault Bush at his Private Home in Crawford.
And when Bush became a private citizen (with protection), she and her vicious supporters even assaulted Bush (and neighbors)at his PRIVATE home in DALLAS.
They have no credibility.
all the people that are being made examples of right now are going to have a field day in court showing that under Republican Admins, the Fed LEOS did nothing about the “threats”.
Zero is looking for his own Oklahoma City moment so he can say “See I told you those tea-baggers are violent”.
30 Governors (including a number of high profile Republicans) got threats last week too. The media’s already buried that story.
Both. The number of threats increased from 15 reported threats in 4th quarter 2009 to 42 reported threats in 1st quarter 2010; and the reporting of threats increased from approximately 0.05 reports per incident in 2009 to 125.5 reports per incident in 2010. The numbers for reports per incident are just estimates.
Why I never call DC anymore and rarely post.
I’m so angry about what they’ve all done, I am not capable of maintaining a civil tongue.
Funny though, I’ve been getting the feeling that anyone who is saying they wish to see one of them voted out of office or disagrees with their policies enough to call everyday will be treated as a threat.
It’s their kitchen now. They should man up and take the heat or get the heck outta there.
“...And....Downstairs. THATS gotta hurt!..”
That’s called a “Brazilian”, by the way...Au naturale..
Maybe it should just be called “Lib-erating”
It’s considered a threat to tell them that their policies suck bilge-water.
I believe most people said they hated Bush just because they heard someone else doing it.
The herding instinct.
It’s more than that...it is a lead up to something much larger...they are setting the stage as they tried to do in the August Recess...against conservatives, tea partiers etc.
Stupek resigns, rumor is that Fwank will also.....
Maybe a threat or two isn’t a bad idea.....
“I’ll never vote for anyone who voted for health care again” heard again and again.....
THAT is a threat that SHOULD make them stop and think and resign!
These people are creating a narrative pretext for dropping out of races they can’t win this fall anyway. So, they are “scared.” Whatever. The Party will put up alternative apparatchik who will NOT have voted for Odumbocare and can SAY they would NOT have voted for it—and thus scam the ignoramouses to vote Dem again.
Ancient KGB proverb says:
If you can’t change the liar, change the lie. If you can’t change the lie, change the liar.
“If you cant change the liar, change the lie. If you cant change the lie, change the liar.”
That’s what I figured they were doing. We have to keep repeating that there is no such thing as a “blue dog Democrat.”
