Thanks for posting that portion of the indictment. What I am curious about is what would the motivation be for this crime? All crimes have a risk vs reward, even if the reward is a cheap thrill, or a vague sense of revenge. If these guys really were out to kill a Police Officer, and then bomb additional officer at the funeral, what is the motivation for those murders?

Yesterday the news was a plot to attack muslims. If this was a real plan... was it an attempt to frame a muslim group? Im not wanting to speculate... Im just wondering if you or anyone knows the answer to "why?"

Yup. Haven’t had a chance to read the whole story yet, but if they have the ACLU too it’s a trifecta!

Don't know when that act was passed, but it clearly has not been enforced. Just to name a couple of recent examples, look at Michael Moore and his screenplay (writing) and movie about George Bush. Look at all those people who push 9/11 conspiracy crap.

If that law you cite has never been enforced, and if it is now suddenly being used in a selective, political manner, I hope some Constitutional lawyers get in on the case and challenge it through the courts.

Tell me about it. These brain surgeons were just asking for trouble. What really annoys me is this: we’ve been trying to dispel the myth that we’re slack-jawed rednecks, and then some geniuses go and do...this.

Guys (and gals):

1. I2P. If you don’t know what it is, find out before you start talking about some really provocative stuff.

2. Your problem won’t be the government per se, it will be the Black Panthers toting AR-15s. If you need to form a “plan”, I would argue it should be how to stop them from murdering townsfolk and convincing them that continuing to do so is mighty unhealthy. It’s worth pointing out that such a plan is a reaction to an illegal act by them, not a preemptive one...and they are NOT the government.

What’s funny about prefacing my comments with “as far as I know,” thereby acknowledging that I don’t know it all?

-- the nutty black group in Miami, Seeds of David, was charged with seditious conspiracy. --

It seems there are a few. All I had was a hunch, based on what seems to be a focus on terrorism and material support charges.

Here are more "seditious conspiracy" incidents:

New York Times: Sedition: It Still Rolls Off the Tongue
By ADAM LIPTAK
Published: May 7, 2006

IT is simply un-American, the governor of Montana said last week, as he granted posthumous pardons to scores of people convicted of sedition during World War I, to make it a crime to criticize the government. ...

"Sedition laws and the material support laws," said David Cole, a law professor at Georgetown University, "are all designed to serve the same purpose: to give the government incredible discretion to go after people without proving they took part in any criminal or violent act."

This may end up like the Hal Turner case. Multiple trials with juries refusing to convict. All will hinge on the facts and evidence. This indictment is just a shell.

It’s not just planning. Conspiracy is an agreement among two or more persons to commit an unlawful act, and it requires that at least one of the conspirators commit an overt act to effect the object of the conspiracy.

Militia Groups = Idiots EVERYTIME!

When these stooges assemble, wherever they form a group, they should realize the odds are their group has an informant or informants.

If your point is “loose lips sinks ships,” that part is as true today as in the days we first declared independent against Tyranny.

Many historians believe Patriot Nathan Hale ("I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country.") was hung in September 1776 after his Loyalist cousin, Samuel Hale, revealed Nathan's true identity to the British in New York.

However, being a member of a Militia is a Constitutionally-protected right, part of the Second Amendment.

In the DC v. Heller (2008) opinion, Justice Scalia clarified many important concepts regarding the Militia and the Second Amendment, such as this on pages 24-25:

There are many reasons why the militia was thought to be “necessary to the security of a free state.” See 3 Story §1890. First, of course, it is useful in repelling invasions and suppressing insurrections. Second, it renders large standing armies unnecessary—an argument that Alexander Hamilton made in favor of federal control over the militia. The Federalist No. 29, pp. 226, 227 (B. Wright ed. 1961) (A. Hamilton). Third, when the able-bodied men of a nation are trained in arms and organized, they are better able to resist tyranny.

If the charges against Hutaree true, it's folly and morally-wrong to condone their planned action.

BUT, part of the reason the Framers gave us the Second Amendment (and the Militia) is to leverage against the Government, to ensure the rights of the First Amendment would never fade away.

The Government SHOULD fear The People, not the other way around. It's a primary means to secure The People's rights and that those rights aren't swept away like we've seen time and time again in nations where the citizens are NOT allowed to own arms and maintain a Militia.

Furthermore, if the Government oversteps its authority and tiptoes on TYRANNY — like many agree that it IS — the power of The People and their ability "to keep and bear arms" cannot — again, CANNOT — be viewed by the Government as an EMPTY THREAT.

These Rights to "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State ... to keep and bear arms" were given to The People to use by our Founding Fathers, as the Founding Fathers had to secure and EXERCISE those rights against TYRANNY themselves.

If an IED is classified as a WMD, then Iraq had WMDs and our invasion of them was totally legitimate and acceptable to the liberals.

Exactly so, manc. Anyone not on the wrong side can see exactly what they’re up to. Your little summary would be a very good letter to the editor.

It will be very interesting to know who was the mole/agent provacateur in that group, and how much of the “crimes” were his instigation.

They certainly do prosecute Muslims who are involved in terrorist activities. Look at Sami al-Arian, the Holy Land Foundation, or the “Lackawanna Six”, or, right in my back yard, the “North Carolina Seven”, for starters.

If prosecutions of Muslim terrorist conspiracies may be fairly rare, prosecutions of non-Muslim domestic terrorist conspiracies are even more rare. They certainly didn’t prosecute any of the neo-Nazi buddies of that old nut who shot up the Holocaust Museum, either.

Criminal conspiracies are hard to prove. Just announcing that you hate Americans or the government and would like to kill them isn’t enough. We’ll see what evidence they have in this case, but I have a feeling it will be more than just rhetoric. You don’t often get to be a federal prosecutor by doing things that get you laughed out of court.

Yes, you are right that some Muslims have indeed been prosecuted. But so far - and hopefully we will see what the facts are at some point - these people, fools that they may be, were doing less than what has been happening at various Islamic training camps for some years. Why won’t the feds go after the Muslims?

And the fact that the Southern Poverty Law Center and CAIR are involved totally stinks.

The Attack on the Republicans In October 1798, a Vermont Republican congressman, Matthew Lyon, became the first person to be put on trial under the Sedition Act.

To be precise, Lyon was a member of the Damocratic-Republican Party.

"The Democratic-Republican Party was founded by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison around 1792. Supporters usually identified themselves as Republicans, but sometimes as Democrats." - Wikipedia

The Republican Party was not founded until 1854.

My comment. Yes a get out of “jail-free card” issued by the Bush administration!! They are all hooked together. If they hold a vote in November it will most likely be the last chance we will have for a peaceful resolution.

The “NEW WORLD ORDER” is about to become operational.

thanks
it is so obvious that the left have now sent out word to change the subject from this health care as it is so unpopular.

The media is playing the lefts handbook again and yet we still have people who fall for this crap.

I nearly fainted when I heard a left wing kook say the bullet at his office was not done on purpose and that it went up in the air and fell near the window, BTW that was the idiot called Colmes.

smear them , make up stories, play the victim and then change the talking headlines in the media, meanwhile getting obama out of the country so he does not have to attend church and what better way then to visit the troops.

Now I hear that the rats are now wanting those CEO’s to come to congress and put out that Steele or someone in the RNC went to a strip joint on donated money.

course when has the DNC been interested in how the RNC has spend just over a grand?

answer
When they want the subject changed .
Makes me sick but having just come back fromt he bank and the sotre I heard people saying how obama is ruining tis cotnry and a bank teller tell me how she voted for him but will never vote for him or that party again.

The rats are in great trouble politically and the talking points of theirs is not working.

Let us just keep on track and subjects to our friends, neighbours, family, at work , at the clubs etc.
