LOL. No one had to force them. They accepted it willingly. And if not for secession they would have continued to accept it. For the northern people of that time to have embraces the high moral standard you wrongly attribute them THEY would have had to secede from the union.
May I suggest you read up on history before posting any more.
Add to that the Fugitive Slave Act that forced not only the states, but even individual citizens to serve as federal law enforcement officers against their will.
The Slave Power did not give a damn about states rights and certainly gave no thought to individual rights.

how on earth can he say Lincoln was strong on states rights when he went against states rights and caused over a half million deaths .
For the trolls on this then I know it was not all his fault either and if Davis had said he would get rid of slavery then Lincoln could not have used that political ploy to his advantage and it would not have stopped Europe especially the UK and France from undoing the blockade which was killing civilians
it seems Beck is starting to lose it on a couple of issues.
He never went after Jennings the homosexuals who teaches kids about fisting when he went after the czars.
This and another couple of points which elude me right now
Jason you only have to read journals of those who fought to see that it was not about slavery and Lincoln could not have been more clearer about him not giving a crap about slavery
it was a smart political move to keep Europe out of the war and to make the war about keeping the union, when he saw that more and more in the north said let them go their way that is when he made the move on slavery
so why did he not free slaves in the border states
for crying out loud anyone would have to be blind or stupid to not see that Lincoln was using slavery as a political ploy.
If you read his memoirs he was just as much as a racist as many others back in that day.
He made it clear he couldn’t care less about slavery.

Lincoln was a master at politics he knew that the fort would be fired upon he had carried out his orders as he was told.
He knew Europe would not get involved in the war if he could come up with a moral issues and hey presto slavery was it.
Davis should have said we will get rid of slavery then send millions of them up north and I guarantee Lincoln would have been forced out of office.
sadly you’re right, it is a shame that some think because they read one book on the subject or read a few websites that they then think they know all about the war.
I’ve been looking at this war for over a decade and history for over 20 years and I still am learning about it every day.
For to get the real idea about the war you have to read memoirs from back in the day on both sides and it is really revealing how they thought of the war and slavery back then.
I was at a reenactment this weekend near me and there was a group of confederates and all black, A black woman went up to them and asked them why the hell are they wearing that uniform and why would they even think of it and the black confederates response was “you don’t know much about history do you’?.
She asked what they meant and they went on to explain how their ancestors fought for the confederacy and that the yankees killed their own ancestors etc
the woman thank them in the end and said she had never even heard of that and she hoped more would find out the truth
correct anthony johnson in VA was so mean to his slaves that a slave ran away and begged the white guy to take him.
it was johnson who went to court to make slaves property thus making law in VA to have slaves.
of course teachers in public school like to ignore that or do not know that but gladly my kids do put their hand up and make it a note to teachers and the class about it or anything the teacher gets wrong
you know I hear this all the time about it being illegal and yet the revolution was illegal according to some and some were branded traitors

I suggest you look history up and reconstruction, you might find some facts like women in New orleans being told that they will be dragged in the street if they did not be nice to the northern soldiers who were robbing them and raping them.
or how about women and families who were led away from their land and never was allowed to go back or how about all those who were robbed, raped, murdered, etc and yet when the south went north on that occasion to PA the locals said the southern men were gentlemen and never even went into a house unless they asked for permission

Lincoln was also fighting another war at the time and that against the indians who no one seems to have a problem with except the indians, that is why they hate him.
It is good that you do not have a problem with the flag or many remembering their ancestors as they should on both sides.
I lived up north and around the world and I can tell you that up north the history is so bias it is not even funny.
I lived up in MA for some time as my wife is from there and even she has said that most up there have no clue about the war and think it was all about slavery when it was not and Lincoln even said it was not.
for you have no problem if you come tom my state as you seem to have more of an open mind it is the loons from up there or the so called republicans who are more like Dems down here with their social policies

The fact is that in all wars the victor gets to write the history and it never comports with what ACTUALLY happened.
Those who depend on their public school educations for a factual account will always be completely misinformed. In the case of this war there is so much that those folks have never heard or read but is never-the-less very true!

If Davis had said he would get rid of slavery then he would have been impeached and kicked out of the conferacy. Or locked up in a lunatic asylum, one of the two.
