Twelve people have been killed and 31 wounded in a shooting spree at a Texas military base by what officials believe was possibly carried out by an Army officer.

The suspected gunman was identified by ABC News as Major Malik Nadal Hasan.

The shooter was killed and two other suspects, who are also soldiers, have been apprehended, Lt. Gen. Robert W. Cone said.

The gunman used two handguns, Cone said. He wasn't sure if the shooter reloaded the weapons during the attack.

Update 2:35 Killeen ISD has 9 schools, all on post, on lockdown. KISD asks parents to stay away.

Update 2:30 Fort Hood is asking people on post to stay away from windows. Belton ISD is on Lockdown

Update 2:22 Fort Hood reports 7 people are dead 12 are wounded and one person is in custody.

Update 2:17 Temple ISD Schools Have Been locked down as part of this incident. The district’s spokeswoman tells News Channel 25 Temple Police are placing officers at each TISD campus. The schools will dismiss as usual.

I doubt if it has anything to do with mental health.

My husband was the commanding officer of the Readiness Center at an Army base...it’s a transition center. If I can remember correctly, the soldiers reported there when they were assigned to the base or departing and getting another base assignment elsewhere. The Readiness Center handled their records.
