If I had children still in school and objected to the invasion of public schools with propaganda, I would send a note to school with my children that they are to be exempted from participation in this exercise. And if the school gave me any flack, I'd just keep them home that day.
Where is the requirement that our children need to be 'inspired' by socialism and guilt trips that is vested in the ideology of Barack Obama?
Wow!! :)
Yes, I know they do, but so does every other state. But it doesn’t pay for teachers and it doesn’t pay for buildings and maintenance. It only pays for federal projects. It doesn’t pay for my children’s classroom time.
It never paid for my children’s breakfast/lunch, they never used special teachers, and they never rode school busses.
Federal dollars only apply to federal projects, again, not teachers and not classrooms.
Amen!!
What would you expect from gov’ment schools??
Not that any of that matters. You have your kids in a socialist school and others are subsidizing your lifestyle.
In Texas the average a district spends per pupil is $11,000.00 and change. Few people pay $11,000.00 in school taxes. Look at your property tax bill. Deduct what you pay in school tax from $11,000.00 or if you are in a “poor” district from $8000.00 which used to be the Robin Hood minimum. That’s the amount you are being subsidized by money taken by force from others. If you have more than one kid your subsidy is more.
People who using the socialist schools are feeding at the public trough just like people who live in public housing or take WIC payments are.
The arguments for having socialized schooling are the same arguments people use for pushing socialized medicine. Neither one has a place in a free society. We need to return to a capitalist schooling system and do away with all socialist schools.
Right! Call it “Freedom Flu”!!
If I had kids in school,i’d keep them home, that’s for sure.
Homeschool bump!
Just one from an email Meek. Use it if you like it.
No, I’m not wrong, sorry. Federal money is not fungible. I was school board treasurer for years.
And NO, federal funds do not pay for classroom teachers or for school property.
You don’t seem to know much about how money works or about what’s going on in the socialized schools. Like your claim that Texas isn’t taking part in No Child Left Behind, but I easily found where they are getting federal awards for implementing NCLB.
http://ritter.tea.state.tx.us/press/nclb03brs.html
Sure I do. Apparently you don’t. There are repercussions for not using federal dollars for the programs they are specifically designed for in the leftist attempt to re-engineer our schools.
Federal education dollars DO NOT fund classroom teachers or school properties LOCAL dollars do!
AND speaking of those repercussions, they fined us $444,000 and they cut our funding for NCLB...repercussions, get it?
You make the same argument that Planned Parenthood makes that they aren’t using federal money for abortions. However, like a school district, the money they get from the feds frees up money they get from elsewhere to be used to kill babies.
As for the $444,282.00 fine Texas paid, it wasn’t because they weren’t taking part in NCLB. It was because for two years, the state exceeded the federal cap on how many students with learning disabilities could be given an easier exam instead of the rigorous Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills and the TEA failed to justify the action within the time allotted. That’s a far cry from telling the feds they weren’t going to comply with NCLB.
The fine represented a fraction of the $1.1 billion in NCLB funds Texas got from the feds in 2004. It wasn’t a big deal.
The simple words from lord of the Rings was so dead on:
"my business is of my own"
NO, let me school you. You cannot spend federal dollars for anything else but federal programs. You CANNOT use federal dollars for the school lunch program to hire teachers. You CANNOT use federal dollars for school lunch programs to mow the lawn or build a stadium. You have to use it to buy lunches AND at the end of the year if you do not use it all, it gets returned to the federal government. Comprende?
You CANNOT use money appropriated for ANYTHING but what it specifically states in the grant it was handed down.
You CANNOT hire a teacher with federal funds from a grant for school busses or developing mapped school routes.
You CANNOT spend money from a grant for technology at your school to hire a teacher or a janitor.
Federal funds if not used for the purpose intended get returned to the general fund of the federal government, supposedly to be re-appropriated, but usually disappear into a black hole.
And YES, I know why they fined us, and YES I know that our school districts are STILL putting NCLB on the back burner and YES, I know they cut a major portion of our funding.
I never said you can spend federal money for anything other than what it was given for. Let’s look at a simple theoretical budget for a theoretical socialist school.
This year our school needs:
$1,000.00 for classroom bureaucrats.
$1,000.00 for lunch food
$2,000.00 for technology
$3,000.00 for a new wing
We need $7,000.00 for everything we want this year. But local taxes are only going to bring in $6,000.00. We can raise taxes or ask the feds to pay for something.
They give us $1000.00 for lunches and $2,000 for technology. We spend the fed money on those things.
Now we have $2,000.00 in local tax money more than we need, so we amend the budget and give the classroom bureaucrats a raise and hire one or two more, carpet the new wing, buy the football team new uniforms and send the school board to the NEA convention.
We spent the fed money on what they said we should spend it on. No federal money went to pay classroom bureaucrats or the new wing of the school, or the trip for the board.
Even in socialist school math $444,282 is NOT a "major portion" of $1.1 billion. And even the feds don't give out awards for putting their programs "on the back burner".

You do not undestand the accounting and funding of local school districts, Sir.
The local school district does not have FEDERAL funds in it’s bank account. Federal money is paid by the state treasury set up to handle those funds which are closely monitored.
The local school district has it’s own bank account to accept tax dollars from it’s district, set up locally from which it expends funds. The local school district does not have the ability to co-mingle those funds and spend it where ever they WANT to spend it.
It takes every dollar of your local tax dollars to pay teachers, buy books and supplies, and maintain school property. There is NEVER any EXTRA dollars!
New uniforms are usually purchased with donations from the local PTA, as well as band uniforms.
And YES, $444,000 is almost HALF a billion dollars which is quite a significant part of $1.1 billion.
You are obviously the product of government schools, and an excellent example of why they need to be done away with.
