Don't expect many single mothers to vote Republican -- they need government as Daddy. I do not agree with the priorities of the social conservative bloc in the Repubilcan Party. Reducing illegitimacy is very important.
Eugene Cane (an African American writer for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel) tackles the tough social question regarding single parenting in the African-American community. An issue, which he believes has an impact on everything from crime to education to poverty.
“Why are there so many out-of-wedlock births in the African-American community?” He asks, and presents statistics indicating that nearly 70% of black babies are born out of wedlock - surely an incredible figure.

That’s funny, because I mentioned the same thing to a customer the other day. I watched Baby Momma with my g/f last week, and it glorified two out of wedlock mothers having babies. I went to the Dr. Monday and the waiting area for pediatrics was adjoining my Dr’s office, and there were 4 women 18 or 19 and under. One gal looked about 15 and she had a toddler, another in a stroller, and one in the oven. (she was a permanent exchange student from south of the border)
This is our answer. Years ago, there was no way to automatically show up with your hand out and receive a check.
If you mean increased sex education and abortion, re-read the article. Europe with it's more "enlightened" attitudes toward sexuality, contraception and abortion has an even higher illegitimacy rate.
Having sex is associated with having babies. Even for married couples, some actually plan pregnancies but most children are accidents.

Many of today’s men are in arrested adolescence and take the same Hollywood enticement—get out there, get a Harley, slick up your chick appeal (I’ve never seen so many adult men spending a fortune on motorcycles, expensive guitars, sailboats...can you imagine our parents generation doing this?).

Or we’ll have a nation of botoxed, viagra-ed, baby as accessory, breast-implanted, porn addicted, cruising sensation junkies strung out on shallow sugar highs and never committing to dignity, values and multi-generational families built on a common legacy.
This will continue as long as the govt is allowed to continue to prostitute motherhood....the govt and the lawyers get to cut up the 16 billion that this industry of misery is really about.
And start holding women accountable.

Please observe the any Asian Community - from well to do or lower, do you see any women: young or older - single, unmarried, pushing baby carriages or having many children with different men? Also take there total percentage of the Asian population in the United States and their success story and one wonders why have they achieved so much in so little time? Plain and simple: it is their strong family structure, their work ethic and also something I was raised with: if you shame yourself, you lose face and at the same time, you shame your Father and Mother and they lose face too. I rebelled and gave my parents many headaches but I thank them for what they did for me, because today I am a better person for it./Just Asking - seoul62......
I know of at least 8 women in the last 2 years - all in their 20s, all white and from 2-parent households that have gotten pregnant and had children (two lost their children - miscarriages) out of wedlock.
I commend them for not aborting the children. But what I don’t get is this notion that marriage is not an option. Most are living with their boyfriends or just indifferent to marriage. I assume it is simply fear of commitment.
It seems many have stopped honoring marriage. And its hard to make a strong case against alternative lifestyles diminishing its value to society if nobody really treats marriage as a sacred institution anymore.
How many have crossed into America to produce an anchor baby?
