Science Still in the Dark about Dark Energy

by Brian Thomas, M.S.*

Evolutionary astronomers have a problem. The universe is expanding at an ever-increasing rate, but if general relativity is an accurate cosmological model, and if the universe is made up of the kinds of matter and energy that are directly detectable (like atoms and light), then its expansion should be slowing. Astronomers “fixed” this problem by theorizing that “75% of the energy density of the universe exists…as dark energy.”[1] This non-detectable dark energy allows the man-made model to match astronomical observations.

However, scientists are aware that dark energy itself has problems: “Nothing meeting the description of dark energy [matches] fundamental particles… It is a substance that has not as yet been measured directly, has properties unlike anything we have ever seen…. In short, we are very much in the dark about dark energy.”[2] At the urging of mainstream cosmologists, millions of government dollars are being spent trying to detect and characterize dark energy, whose supposed existence is only one of the assumptions required to make standard cosmological models “work.”

Another of these assumptions is...

>>Given that statement can you explain the Smurfs? Did they evolve from Hobbits or Orcs?

You know, in nature, blue means poison (”blueberries” are purple).

So the smurfs must have evolved from poisonous shrubs.

Man corrupts religion, not the other way around. It’s a safe bet if Jesus were on the Earth today, he would not recognize or approve of the majority of the world’s religions.

My relationship with God is quite simplistic and basic - I believe he exists, and I’m thankful for the gift of life which originated from him. I tell him that in prayer, and I try to lead a life which I believe is the closest to what he has commanded.

Even though I’m a church goer, I have little use for most religions and what they’ve become over the centuries.

You could solve all your ‘problems’ with some study of God’s word.

As could you.

So if you would like to say that the Flintstones was a very popular cartoon based on a cartoonish understanding of the theory of evolution, I could live with that.

The Flintstones was based in the Creationist view of early man: ie they were exactly like modern humans but wore animal skins and lived in crude rock dwellings eg caves.

Looks like it. It is tough to fill in the gaps — a good junk drawer seems to be the answer.

"I mean read for the message."

If you mean it, then do it for a change!

Quit trying to twist the word.

>> If you mean it, then do it for a change!

I do it daily, in word and deed.

>>Quit trying to twist the word.

In the Beginning there was the Word — and that is Who I follow. I suggest you soften your heart and listen to what The Word is saying to all of us.

Can you hear it? Your posts sometimes suggest otherwise my brother in Christ.

I pray for you daily, that you may have your heart opened.

It may happen yet.

I can hardly believe what I see before me. A person that completely denies God’s word is telling me he wants my heart opened? To what, the lies and deception of the humanists? No, thanks! I’ll stick with God’s revealed truth.

Objective science lines up with the word, not with the stuff that you’re pushing FD.

Been there, done that, didn't get the T-shirt though. But I do have a nifty collection of bibles left over.

Man corrupts religion, not the other way around.

If you're talking about organized religion, I agree. I have zero problems with people having and practicing their faith as long as they don't hurt, harass or infringe on the liberties of others. I'm all for it if it helps them lead better lives. Whatever floats your boat.

Group dynamics and demagoguery can take over when they get organized though, often to someone's detriment. This can be as relatively harmless as the back-stabbing fashion show/social clubs that many Christian churches around here have become, to our favorite pastime of the Muslims -- killing people.

My point to you was just answering your claim that Christianity is like all other religions.

For the purposes of the Wager, which is what I was talking about, it is like all other religions. I didn't mean for this to grow into a larger comparative religions discussion.

I said you must first get them to realize they need more

Or, IMHO, you must first convince them they need more when they often really don't. Some may need more, and it's fine if religion is what they needed to get their lives together. Others don't need more.

You seem to have a big hangup with religion. What happened to turn you off to it?

Makes more sense then the alternative which would be a miserable existence for 60 to 120 years if your lucky, then nothing.

I would rather take my chance on an eternal God who offers an eternal existence with no pain and no misery forever.

If I'm right I get the goodies, if I'm wrong I still lived a good life with no regrets.

If your wrong you miss all the goodies and get hell instead, forever!

But hey your just too smart that right?

A reasoned approach. I agree.

I stopped going to church shortly after I got married, and stayed away for almost 10 years because I was sickened at what my church had become - a smarmy social gathering point where you were judged on the clothes you wore, how many cars you owned or what your home was worth. Church should always be about worshipping God and bettering yourself, not determining your neighbor's social status. Fortunately, I found a church a few years ago where the real focus is on God and spiritual matters in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. I'm very happy there, and I feel closer to God than I have in years.

No big hang up, just not my thing. It wasn't so much being turned off, but finding religion itself not necessary, and finding the apologetics to remain and to come back not convincing.
