NEW YORK As the Obama administration attempts to push through Congress a nearly $1 trillion deficit spending plan that is weighted heavily toward advancing typically Democratic-supported social welfare programs, a rebellion against the growing dominance of federal control is beginning to spread at the state level.
So far, eight states have introduced resolutions declaring state sovereignty under the Ninth and Tenth Amendment to the Constitution, including Arizona, Hawaii, Montana, Michigan, Missouri, New Hampshire, Oklahoma and Washington.
Analysts expect that in addition, another 20 states may see similar measures introduced this year, including Alaska, Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Nevada, Maine and Pennsylvania.
"What we are trying to do is to get the U.S. Congress out of the state's business," Oklahoma Republican state Sen. Randy Brogdon told WND.

Cool map! Just noticed that the San Diego area kind of blends into Arizona.
Thanks LucyT.

This does surprise me, because that federal money is more addictive then crack cocaine. I doubt if they actually go through with it, but it does send a strong message to DC.
Yup. The NV legislature is working overtime to figure out how to draw down maximum porkage. I know this because the local Tee-Vee newz reports on it with an air of hope in the reporters voice.
20-50 years is too long for a massive demographic shift.
I prefer to see and participate in a much quicker shift of individual capitalists and our creativity from blue states to red states, like in the next 2 to 4 years.
Especially if this trillion-dollar boondoggle passes b/c that’ll confound, confuse and infuriate Ogabe and his army of zombies(wasting taxpayer bucks should create zero job growth in Ogabe territories/counties/states).
Half the battle is psychological, the other half, physical.
Mama, as I have always understood the Commerce Clause, it was there to give FedGov the authority to tell New York that it cannot impose a duty on goods coming in for sale from Pennsylvania or a tariff on goods being transshipped from Vermont through New York into Pennsylvania. In other words, to ensure a level field with respect to State GOVERNMENT actions involving trade and protectionism at that level. The Founders NEVER intended that Congress or the Executive have authority to ban goods, to impose any sort of regulation of BUSINESS or industry whatsoever. It was only to ensure the STATES THEMSELVES played fair.
Indeed. Thanks for the ping!
This is an interesting development, but you make a very good point. One of the main reasons for federal encroachment on the states is the federal funding the states accept.
According to the Tax Foundation (my favorite website): Of the eight states that introduced resolutions, five are beneficiary states: states that receive more in federal spending than they pay in federal taxes. The exceptions are Michigan, New Hampshire, and Washington which pay more into Washington than they receive in return. (Based on 2005 data, but it probably hasn't changed much.)
Of the other states listed who are expected to introduce similar measures, all are beneficiary states, except California, Colorado, and Nevada.
I'm glad to see all of these states assert their right to sovereignty. But, isn't it ironic that the states that typically receive more from Washington are the ones introducing these measures? You'd think the states that pay more into Washington would wise up; they should be the ones calling for sovereignty.
Bingo, MamaTexan. Frickin' Bingo.
Exactly right, and that's why she said "ENTITIES" - to indicate the corporate States alone.
Arizona finally gets that oceanfront property we heard tell about!
Brilliant.
Not really. The taxes to maintain city infrastructure and services must be huge, at least until the pork barrel is opened up. Pork barrel promises buy votes, and cities are ripe for that. City folks tend to be more apt to rely on service providers than do for themselves as well. (City water, sewer, garbage collection, snow removal, police, etc... )
Where does it list these states as being at the forefront of the battle? Where is Texas?
At the very least, Red states Federal Tax dollars should NEVER bail out Red States who are all about electing an ineligible fraud named Obama.
I just saw a notice at my cigar store which informed
the customers of the $ 0.40 federal tax per cigar effective April 1st.
Illinois Democrats are supporting another gasoline tax increase.
It won’t end until the government destroys the free market.
This is madness!

Remember Boxer and Hillary are tighter than thieves, I still remember the speech Hillary made campaigning for Boxer four years ago where she basically said we have to take from the rich to give to the poor (this was in San Francisco).......
I don’t believe AZ is, our budget is already set and they cut spending to balance it.
Where does it list these states as being at the forefront of the battle? Where is Texas?
At the very least, Red states Federal Tax dollars should NEVER bail out BLUE States who are all about electing an ineligible fraud named Obama.
CA and MI are a mess...Red states are luring business vs Blue states which a bankrupt. NYC is disgusting. CT is living off of NYC salaries which are being slashed by Muslim Obama. hehehehe NYC is at the point of taxing their citizens oxygen. If they can track it, they'll tax it. David Letterman is a moron. David and SNL believe they are so sophisticated and above the Red states, yet they are getting taxed to death.
