Obama Takes Blame as Daschle Withdraws Nomination for HHS Post Former Senator Says He 'Will Not Be a Distraction;' Obama: 'I Screwed Up'

WASHINGTON -- Former Sen. Tom Daschle, under fire for his failure to pay more than $140,000 in taxes and interest on time, withdrew his nomination to be secretary of health and human services, saying he had lost the confidence of the Congress.
President Barack Obama is taking responsibility for mistakes in the handling of the tax controversy that led to Mr. Daschle's withdrawal, saying: "I screwed up."
The president did a series of back-to-back television interviews in which the subject of failed nominees was a top subject. Mr. Obama told NBC, "I'm frustrated with myself" for unintentionally sending a message that there are "two sets of rules" for paying taxes, "one for prominent people and one for ordinary folks."
"I take responsibility for this mistake," he told Fox News.
The decision shocked Capitol Hill, where Democrats were rallying around his embattled nomination, and marked a sharp setback for President Barack Obama, who had hoped that Mr. Daschle could take the lead in pushing through Mr. Obama's ambitious plan to remake the U.S. health-care system.

One of the things almost everyone wants to avoid, is that Bush cut our nuclear arsenal by 50%, and completed it several years early. By 2012 he had agreed to an overall cut of 75%. And who knows if he was early on that or not? It may already be done.
I know where you are coming from, but both sides are screwing us. Until we come to grips with that and get our party back under control, I’m not going to be happy with any federal leaders, dem or rep.
