President-elect Obama stopped by the Marine Corps base in Hawaii Kaneche Bay where servicemen and -women were eating Christmas dinner in Kailua Thursday evening.

"Just wanted to say hi, hey guys," Obama said as he walked into the Anderson dining hall which was decked out in Christmas decorations.

The diners represented seven military units—Marine and Navy—some of whom were joined by their families for Christmas dinner.

As Obama entered the room, it was absent of the regular fanfare of cheering and clapping. The diners were polite, staying seated at their respective tables and waited for the president-elect to come to them to stand up.

In 23 years I never knew any soldier who was overtly political. Most (a huge majority) never voted. The Commander in Chief is way too far removed from most troops to matter in their daily lives.

After January 20, 2009, these servicemen and women will be required to stand at attention when in the presence of their Commander in Chief, but until then Obama is just another illegal alien.

That deserves repeating!

Oh, and you owe me a new keyboard...

“I’d sooner see the devil at my Christmas dinner.”

I would have to leave the room, for sure! I can not and will not accept Obama as my President since it is obvious he does not constitutionally qualify to hold the office of President/Commander in Chief!

with his incessant calls for a pull-out before the job was done?

Oh what job was that?

What are the chances we get a military coup during the next four years?

Surely, you jest.

The comment from the article made me really laugh loudly. Especially about the military having been “bred to kill and not care”.

“Chances are slim to none. Our military is made up of professionals, not banana republicans.
It would have to be beyond bad for them to move against a constitutionally elected president.”

Well, how bad could it GET?

Ooh-rah! As a nobody from Illinois (not to be confused with Gov. Blago), who’s been sending packages to Marines since 2004, I got a bigger reception at the 2d Radio Dining Out and the 1st Radio Birthday Ball this past year.

The last pre-election poll I saw, the military iverakk was going for McCain around 70% and the Marines at 83% (or higher). What WAS he thinking?

When I saw the picture of barry in the USMC Tee shirt, my stomach knotted up with revulsion. Marines and soldiers will always respect the office of the president as CIC but Zero wouldn’t make a pimple on a dead Marine’s ass. Semper Fi!

‘In my experience most troops were apolitical.’

I can’t speak from experience but when President Bush visited our troops, they sure seemed to love him. At his recent visit to our troops in Iraq, the troops’ roar of appreciation and admiration for W was moving....but, of course, we didn’t see this on TV; we only saw the shoe throwing incident by the Iraqi ingrate.

imho, our troops can spot sincerity ......W sincerely respects and loves our military and their families and they can ‘feel’ it.

Reagan was also very popular with the troops including me. I didn’t vote for him though, and neither did anyone I know.

Actually, that's a line from the Metallica song, "Disposable Heroes," from their album, "Master of Puppets."

Soldier boy, made of clay, now an empty shell
Twenty one, only Son, but he served us well
Bred to kill, not to care, do just as we say
finished here, Greeting Death he's yours to take away
