If it were not so important, we should be able to laugh at the tax returns and U.S. Senate disclosure forms of Senators Obama and Biden.
In 2004, obviously neither Senator Biden nor Senator Obama realized that their tax returns would be made available to the public. And neither of them walked their talk.
In 2004, the Bidens reported that they had $234,271 in adjusted gross income and made contributions of $380. Biden spokesman David Wade said the deductions on the tax forms ``are not the sum of their annual contributions to charity.'' The Bidens ``contribute to their church, and they also contribute to their favorite causes.'' Sure, maybe he tossed a quarter into the Salvation Army kettle. No one forgets to list their charitable contributions in their annual tax return. In 2004, the Obamas reported $207,647 in adjusted gross income and contributed $2500 to charity, an inch over 1% of their income.
Obamas 2004 tax returns report no (none, zero, zip) interest or dividend income. This is confirmed in his 2004 U.S. Senate disclosures which report not a single family bank or checking account with a balance of $1000. One might conclude he and his wife took their pay checks down to the local gas station and cashed them every Friday afternoon. Pretty unusual for folks earning over $200,000 per year. Bidens 2004 tax returns reported the grand sum of $129 in interest income and not a dollar of dividend income. These are families that were earning over $200,000 per year for years and years and years. (The Obamas had adjusted gross income of over $240,000 and the Bidens had adjusted gross income of over $220,000 every year, 2001, 2002 and 2003.)
So what do we have in terms of these Presidential and Vice-Presidential nominees? First, we have people who are not believers in charitable giving while outside the public spotlight. Second, we have people who believe that people who earn over $250,000 a year are rich, but apparently cannot save so much as a nickel while making just under $250,000 a year. Finally, we have two men who wish to be the leaders of the largest economy in the world, who between them simply do not invest in that economy.
In the same year, Kinsman Redeemer brought home $380 and paid $234,271 in TAXES!
These two are HAPPY to give away other folks money!
Q: How does Obama manage to not generate a single penny of interest or dividend income?
A: Cash in unmarked envelopes.
I could buy either listing everything or not listing anything at all. If you want the deduction, then you want to maximize it by listing everything. If someone is giving altruistically and feels that claiming a deduction somehow cheapens that motivation, then you would list no deductions.
Obama and Biden - Bullsh*t Christians.
McCain’s numbers are something like 22% or more. Has Palin released her numbers yet?
Patriots Clinton and Gore followed this route, too. Like BHO and Biden, they were rather parsimonious in their direct contributions before they achieved fame. But, look how generous Clinton was in pushing the Community Reinvestment Act and appointing people like Johnson, Raines, and Gorelick to Fannie Mae to work on the public's behalf.
If you want to see a “Christian” leftist’s head explode,
tell them that their support for socialism in no way fulfills their God given requirement to help the needy.
Charity must come from the fruits of your own work, and must be cheerfully and obediently given to the needy, not to a non-religious political activist organization.
Liberals are all the same. For them charity begins with the government.
Anectdote from a freeper: Neighbor was washing his SUV (with 0bama sticker on it) in his driveway. When asked about his “carbon footprint”, the neighbor replied that
“it’s not what we do individually, it’s what we do politically”
Re your post 12: A down home example of what I was getting at.
IBD EDITORIALS: "NO COAL FOR YOU!" by Investor's Business Daily (SNIPPET: "AMERICA'S ENERGY: Joe Biden wants to develop clean coal technology -- for the Chinese. As for the U.S., he wants the Saudi Arabia of coal to be the Bangladesh of energy.") (September 24, 2008, 4:20 pm PT)
Huh? How does he manage thaat? I am truly puzzled . . .
You can’t become a millionare on a Senators salary. Where did these to get all the millions they have? Obama is supposedly worth about $5 million. Biden lives in a $2 million dollar house. A Senators salary is about $160,000.
Credit to the Michael Medved show for the following (the guest was one of his rabbi friends):
Charity is a moral transaction. The giver gives out of the compassion in his heart for his fellow man. He benefits by the knowledge that he has helped someone and through the gratitude of the man he helped. The receiver of the charity appreciates his benefactor and reaps the moral rewards of a grateful heart.
Government programs change this transaction by removing the morality. The giver is no longer acting out of compassion but compulsion at the point of a gun. Rather than lightening his heart, his spirit is heavy and resentful. The receiver is no longer receiving the love of his fellow man but a payment from government to which he doesn’t feel grateful but entitled.
This is paraphrased from my memory... but sounds about right.
That’s exactly right from a Christian point of view also. Government charity typically morally hurts all people involved. It also causes people to think that they don’t have any responsibility to give individually. The liberal approach to charity is anti-Christian.
Check out the Pew Report on Political Typology. The dividend income statistic jumped out at me because this is a BIG difference between the liberals and “enterprisers” in their study.
They MUST have OFFSHORE BANK ACCOUNTS.....WHO doesn't have SOME INTEREST MONEY??
