WHILE campaigning in public for a speedy withdrawal of US troops from Iraq, Sen. Barack Obama has tried in private to persuade Iraqi leaders to delay an agreement on a draw-down of the American military presence.
According to Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, Obama made his demand for delay a key theme of his discussions with Iraqi leaders in Baghdad in July.
"He asked why we were not prepared to delay an agreement until after the US elections and the formation of a new administration in Washington," Zebari said in an interview.
Obama insisted that Congress should be involved in negotiations on the status of US troops - and that it was in the interests of both sides not to have an agreement negotiated by the Bush administration in its "state of weakness and political confusion."

Is Obama authorized to negotiate with foreign leaders?
“News reporter needs to get Iraqi PM testimony on tape”
Exactly. There has to be corroboration on this. I have no doubt The One would try something like this, but we need backup for this before we get our hopes too high. Over at the Hot Air blog, they`re pissed because they fell for a story Taheri wrote a couple years ago.

You might want to be careful with that....
Hitting my email lists BTTT!
Report is that Obama tried to derail impending decisions on troop withdrawals and status-of-forces agreement, obviously to benefit his own political prospects!!!! If this is not treason it is the first cousin of treason. Working privately to try to derail official US govt. negotiations in a WAR zone over such highly sensitive and important matters.....
The word scandal conjures up propaganda. This is actually enemy combatant status, IMO.
Ads? I want charges!
When a Senator goes behind teh President’s back and tries to undermine the US position on an on-going war, could that be deemed treason? Sedition?
This is hugh and series.
This alone deserves a nationwide campaign ad.
Talk about “supporting the troops”- Obama seeks to delay a victory so he can claim it?
Black Whiteguilt Oblack wanted to keep the issue of Iraq and knew if this agreement was made the war would be off the table. No wonder he came up w/the 16 mo withdrawl and Iraq magically agreed. What a phony.
Pray for W, McCuda and Our Troops
Only if we let the media ignore it.
We need to make sure the media reports this.
Keep it in Breaking News...Rush will see it. And it’s on Drudge.
bump for later reading...
If this is true, it’s a clear violation of the Logan Act.
If true, Zerobama should rightly by sharing a cell with Bruno, who hasn’t been with a woman in 17 years.
I am reminded of the Leftist concocted crap back in the ‘80’s that allegedly the Reagan/G.H.W.Bush team negotiated privately with the Iranians to not release the hostages until after the election then. Pure fabrication.
This is from a very reputable source I believe having read much of Amir Taheri’s work in the past, but we need to have some quality supportive source to back up the claim.
Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari could be asked to confirm this report by another reputable, respected, preferably neutral source if anyone can think of one.
Seems the entire World is involved in our elections, and much of the World seems to be in Socialist Obama’s pocket.
LLS
Many people will never here about this unless it ends up in a campaign ad. The democrats want to derail the war effort. They are more concerned with politics than America’s security.
ping to self...keep following this issue
However, it remains for the Foreign Minister to confirm or deny and for the other government officials whom the author says were importuned by Obama to speak up.
The matter turns 100% on the existence or absence of corroboration.
