Fairness demands that I hit the rich, says Obama
UK Sunday Times ^ | Aug. 24, 2008 | Irwin Stelzer

Posted on 08/23/2008 7:03:27 PM PDT by FocusNexus

We now know what Obama has in store for the American economy. Let's start with energy. His is the traditional Democratic tilt in favour of renewables, ethanol and conservation. But with the polls showing that more than 70% of Americans favour opening offshore America and federal lands to drilling, Obama panicked. He now says he will go along with a comprehensive deal that includes new taxes on oil companies in return for a relaxation of restrictions on offshore drilling, so long as it is done in an environmentally sensitive way, which means that there will be no offshore drilling.

As for nuclear, Obama says he does not oppose building new plants so long as the waste-disposal problem is solved. Which he makes sure it will not be by opposing the opening of the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste repository in Nevada. All in all, Obama’s plan to get America off foreign oil in 10 years is no plan at all. Solar, wind and corn are no match for Saudi oil when moms fill their tanks en route to picking up the kids at school.

Obama plans to redistribute wealth from the "rich" to the middle class. The top tax rate will go from 36% to 39.5%. Tax rates on dividends and capital gains will rise from 15% to 20% on individuals who are making more than $200,000 a year and on families earning more than $250,000, and 10 years hence payroll taxes on earnings above $250,000 will rise significantly. The estate tax would rise to 45% on estates that are valued at more than $7m per couple.

Get your dictionary out, it is fascism he is wanting.

I think fascism is a little too masculine for what Barry has planned....it’s more like a very effete socialism.

Fairness demands that Barack give up his million dollar mansion and move into more modest affordable housing.

I’m not saying that he needs to move into a mud hut leanto like his brother.

But if there will be change, let it begin with “me”. Obama needs to make some PERSONAL SACRIFICE before he starts taking things that belong to OTHERS.

Damned Marxist.

Don’t give up so easily! This, and issues like it, is a grassroots, bottom up kind of effort. We all recognize that. But the FT is becoming part of the mainstream lexicon, and Obama’s tax plan will only make it more popular.

Obama plans to redistribute wealth from the "rich" to the middle class.

Good. It's about damn time those Trust Fund Babies like Ted Kennedy, Chris Dodd, Jay Rockefeller, Dianne Feinstein, etc., who didn't do a damn thing to earn their wealth shared their good fortune with others.

Oh, wait. I doubt if JoeBama will tax those bloodsucking cur dogs.

I sent an email to Obama’s campaign asking why, if BO wants to eliminate the power of lobbyists and CHANGE the status quo, he is not for the Fair Tax, which would eliminate the tax code and the very reason that lobbyists exist, to manipulate it. Of course, it was a futile gesture and I got an auto reply asking me to donate money and volunteer, hahahaha.

The FairTax will not happen unless the 16th Amendment is repealled BY A CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT.

Here’s an idea - When you get the 27th Amendment passed by Congress and sent to the states for ratification, then come back and tell us how the FairTax will solve all of our woes.

Obama will embark on a quest to redistribute the wealth in this country. If you think Obama, or any Democrat, is about to embrace the FairTax then you are insane.

HOly Cow, Batman!
Saw George Lackoff (rhymes with...) on CSpan last night promoting a ‘cap and dividend’ on the oil companies (instead of the ‘windfall profit tax’)
He proposed the Feds auction off the RIGHT to sell oil in the US to the oil companies. The moneies would not go to the government. It would be considered a ‘dividend’ to the American people. Citizens would receive around $1000 check per year.
I don’t even have to tell anyone here how destructive this would be. Nor do I have to mention the ‘dumb masses’ that would go to the polls to vote themselves ‘largess from the wealthy’.
God help us!

ding, ding, ding,
We have a winner!!
I award you the ‘quote of the day’!

‘To tempt others to sin is far worse than to sin oneself. BO tempts his followers to covet other peoples’ property. It’s that simple. Appealing to the banal side, the wicked side, of the human soul sometimes works’

that’s not going to happen!
the irs enjoys a lot of control over peoples’ lives,
and it will continue.

It will only continue for as long as we allow it to continue. How long do you want it to continue?

The credit for that remark goes to a friend of mine, a Sunday School teacher in this area [a veteran, and much less of a sinner than I am BTW]. I’ll pass it on to him by phone. He never goes online.

It’s not just Obama, it’s the ENTIRE LEFT that promotes covetousness in people.

I guess when you have a “liberal interpretation” of the Bible, wherein “it’s just a bunch of nice stories about treating each other nice”, you can just dismiss the idea that these are COMMANDMENTS from your CREATOR.

Solomon was rich. I wonder what the left would have said of him?

Solomon also instituted taxation systems to finance his building schemes against which, towards the end of his reign, the people began to balk. His son and grandson..Jeroboam and Rehoboam instituted even higher tax burdens on the people(not to mention they were extremely sinful and corrupt..just like the Dem’s) which brought about revolt and the splitting of Irael.

The Government better get a read on history real quick....humans haven’t changed and many Americans still have the blood and genetic dispositions of those who rose against economic and political tyranny.

Interesting history about Solomon and Sons. At the same time, economics was a primitive art back than.

Yes, I know what you mean, but I think there's some hope for the FairTax. Even my die-hard Democrat relatives are warming to it.
