"Republicans have a stake in McCain," said Stephen Hess, a congressional scholar at the Brookings Institution. "They hope he helps energize their party." Bwwwwahhhhhahhhahh!!!!

While Bush’s approval rating has dipped below 30 percent... congress is at 15%.
As for Bush, in general the GOP still loves him. I think he has been and still is a great president.

A recent Wall Street Journal/NBC Poll found that Democrats enjoy a 19-percentage-point lead over Republicans, 52-33, when voters are asked which party they want to control Congress. Of course, half of the people polled don't know that the democrats currently control Congress. If we are going to preserve this Nation, there needs to be some serious voter education.
Every Republican running for office this year needs to be part of a national campaign to run against the "do nothing, good for nothing" democrat controlled Congress.

President Bush has been a disappointment in some respects, but this country has not been attacked in nearly 7 years, terror attacks world-wide are down significantly, the economy has been strong throughout his administration until recently, he has made some good SCOTUS nominations....but he has been a failure on immigration and spending. But I truly believe he is a good man who does what he believes is right regardless of political consequences.
I do not believe the same about McCain...I believe he curries favor with the left and the press by poking conservatives in the eye...he burnishes his image as a "maverick" by intentionally being contrarian on conservative issues just to get press and accolades as "reaching across the aisle" even if he himself doesn't believe in some of his own positions. Why should I believe he'll behave differently as president?
Right on abortion (too late)...right on the war (we already won)...right on queer marriage (so what?)...iffy on taxes..WRONG on immigration, CFR, Keating 5, Gang of 14, global warming scam, sucking up to the political enemy, advoctates government micromanaging corporations, total wimp on new oil exploration, wrong on so-called torture, total hypocrite on Gitmo, etc, etc.

“
While Bush's approval rating has dipped below 30 percent” Ummm..Mr Al Reuters, the Democratic congress can only dream of such a high approval rating, seeing that they have an approval rating that is a lot lower than that of Bush. Of course Al Reuters left that little detail out of this disgusting BDS article.
As for McCain, he can no more "unite" the Republican party than Saddam could unite Iraq. Republicans MAY vote for McCain because Obama is such a scary character, who will destroy America's economy and make Carter's terrible regime look like a dress rehearsal in economic mismanagement.

Bush can’t run a third time and he has endorsed McCain. How can this be spun into “GOP discards Bush for McCain”. I hate the media more than I hate the terrorists.

Whatever will the Drive-Bys write about next year:
Bush soaks in Europe like only a president can
LONDON - Tea at Windsor Castle with Queen Elizabeth II, bike rides in a Paris park and the lush German countryside, a stunning view from a Renaissance villa outside Rome, a rare stroll with the pope in the Vatican's private gardens?
Not a bad life. It seems President Bush is learning to enjoy the perks of traveling abroad as the most powerful man in the world. (cont.)

McCain couldn’t energize a dead slug. What disease has infected these dimwits?
I still would choose Bush ovewr the crazy lib McCain.
McCain is no good, and means no good. All McCain wants is another war where he is CIC to prove something because he was not an achiever.
He and his counterpart Obama should BOTH be kicked to the curb. Disgusting.
