Suicide bomber strikes at Pakistan army base, injuring 3
Mon, 07 Jan 2008
Islamabad - A suicide bomber attacked the entrance of a Pakistani army base camp Monday in the restive north-west Swat valley, killing himself and injuring three soldiers, a military spokesman said.
The bomber blew himself up after being stopped at a security checkpoint in Kabal sub-district, site of the army's largest base camp in the Swat valley, around 11:30 am (0630 GMT), said Major-General Waheed Arshad, the chief army spokesman.
"Three soldiers received minor injuries," he said. Multiple suicide bombers have attacked military targets in Swat in recent months, where the Pakistani army has been conducting operations since late October 2007 to clear out armed Islamic militants who had taken over villages and towns in the valley.
The militants are followers of a radical Islamic cleric, Fazlullah, who is attempting to impose Taliban-style Islamic rule in the region, which is only a four-hour drive from the capital Islamabad.
BOSTON - A man en route to Florida was arrested at Logan International Airport in Boston after screeners found a loaded pistol in his carry-on luggage. The Transportation Security Administration said the man tried to take a loaded 9mm Glock pistol through the JetBlue gates for a flight to Fort Lauderdale.
TSA spokeswoman Ann Davis said the weapon was found in the man's carry-on luggage by TSA screeners, the Boston Globe reported Monday. "In today's security environment, it is beyond stupid to think that you can pass through a security checkpoint with a loaded gun,'' she added. The unnamed man is to be arraigned Tuesday in East Boston District Court.

The scene is on Hopewell Road between Weil Road and Carriage Trail. That's where a public works employee found a small plastic container with Draino and other chemicals inside.
Rangers tell us the device was swabbed and tested positive for a substance that gave them concern. They called the Cincinnati Bomb Squad to dispose of the device.

Al Qaeda extorts money from wealthy businessmen in Tizi Ouzou (lgeria)
Monday, January 07
Well informed sources reveal that the terrorist organization, Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb resorts to a brand new strategy to raise money for their activities, which consists in threatening prominent businessmen and investors in the region of Tizi Ouzou , 100 kms east of Algiers.
Al Qaeda, according to the same sources, has used this method in many occasions to squeeze huge sums of money from these entrepreneurs each end of the year, otherwise they would be killed . The sums averaged 5 million Algerian Dinars each. Actually, this scheme which aims at securing enough liquidity for this organization to carry out its terror attacks in this region, is nothing more than an old stratagem used by this organization in the past across the neighbouring town of Boumerdes, called the ransom .

US Customs - Notice of Proposed Rulemaking
On January 2, 2008, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking entitled "Importer Security Filing and Additional Carrier Requirements," more commonly known as "10+2." CBP has proposed this rule to help identify high-risk shipments so as to prevent smuggling or importation of terrorist weapons, and to ensure cargo safety and security. The proposed regulations would require both importers and vessel carriers to submit additional data elements to CBP pertaining to cargo prior to lading the cargo on vessels destined for the United States.
Scottish threat to poison city water
A shadowy group of extreme Scottish nationalists gave warning that they were prepared to kill thousands of English people by poisoning a citys water supply, a jury at Manchester Crown Court was told yesterday.
The warning was contained in a package, sent through the post to a Scottish journalist, containing a vodka miniature contaminated with a lethal dose of caustic soda.
Another miniature of the poison was sent to a councillor in Blackburn, Lancashire, congratulating him on his recent victory at the polls and urging him to have a drink on me, but it was identified by postal workers as suspicious.
One of the notes was signed SNLA which, the court was told, stood for Scottish National Liberation Army.
Wayne Cook, 45, unemployed, from Tyldesley, Greater Manchester, denies two charges of sending noxious substances through the post likely to endanger life......

MEXICO CITY - A shootout between Mexican authorities and suspected criminals just across the border from Texas left three people dead and eight injured on Monday, officials said.
Gunfire broke out around noon when Mexican federal agents encountered a group of people carrying assault weapons in a car in the town of Rio Bravo, across the border from Donna, Texas, according to a joint statement from Mexico’s federal Attorney General’s office, Defense Department and Public Safety Department.
Three suspected criminals died and five soldiers and three federal police officers were injured in the shootout, which took place in Tamaulipas state, the statement said.
The shooting was drug-related and some of the bodies were still lying in the street hours after the incident, Mexican media reported.
Tamaulipas state, on the border with Texas, has been plagued by drug-related killings and is the home base for the Gulf cartel.
“Fazlullah”
Thank you Oorang.
If they’re against it, why doesn’t the site owner pull the thread?
Just a thought.
It turns out this man has a name. (Most articles i’ve read on arrests lately, the suspect’s seem to identified as “unknown” and “unidentified” and/or “the man” or “the woman.”

His attorney, Anthony J. Rossi, said today that Tasiopoulos had hastily packed for the trip and forgot he still had his handgun in his briefcase. “He forgot to take the gun out,’’ Rossi said. “This is somebody trying to get on a plane in a hurry and he totally forgot about it.’’”
