DeLay energizes GOP faithful By Justin Vellucci TRIBUNE-REVIEW Friday, October 26, 2007

Former Republican House Majority Leader Tom DeLay stood in front of some of Allegheny County's top GOP donors Thursday night and delivered a blunt message appropriate for a man dubbed "The Hammer." "There still is a Republican Party in this country," DeLay said. "And we've got to get our act together and move forward."

DeLay spoke highly of former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and Ron Paul, a Pittsburgh-area native and Texas congressman who DeLay had succeeded in 1985.

"I've known Ron a very, very long time -- I like to think of Ron Paul as 'The Conscience,'" DeLay said. "You've always got to have a conscience."

That's not any endorsement by Tom who is currently endorsing "Undecided". But it does show that the two men have had a warm relationship over the years, something some other FReepers have denied.

Any one that thinks Ron Paul represents or should represent the conscience of the GOP is insane...whether their name is DeLay or whatever.

Newt was already "in charge" when he assumed House leadership, then proceeded to sell his newly elected conservatives, down the river with the go-along to get-along Senate!

None of those guys and gals trust him anymore, why should we/

Curious....... What brought Delay to an event like this? Was it someone he’s working as a lobbyist for, one of the local/state candidates, or has he been hired and put on the speaking circuit by the national GOP?

From the article:
...DeLay’s appearance at the Republican Committee of Allegheny County event clearly energized a group of party faithful stumping for judicial and sheriff candidates, as well as Pittsburgh GOP mayoral hopeful Mark DeSantis.

Newt essentially abandoned his long time wife while she was battling cancer in the hospital. He’s a “skirt chaser” as well. These things alone make me wonder what his “cut of” is for abandoning us and his principles. I wonder what makes him think we would or should trust him at all?

Pittsburgh has a republican that is poised to make the Mayor’s race competitive for the first time in nearly one hundred years.
DeLay came to help inject some mojo back into a lagging party base, they lost Santorum, Hart and a local county executive that had brought stability to the party.
Some may view him as a curious choice, based on what I read it appears he was effective.

Really? Why is that?

After divorcing his “long time wife” (who also happened to be his high school teacher), Newt married Marianne a long time D.C. government insider, whom he dumped after he left office (really in shame as no one supported him.)

DeLay, due to his love fest with lobbyists and free spending antics, is responsible more than anyone for the loss of the House this past election.

Thanks for the insight. My curiousity was there as I couldn’t put a connection between him and Pittsburg per se. I hope he was able to help and maybe a GOP mayor can be elected. Although I’m not from that part of the country I was a Steeler fan for a time back in the days of Bradshaw.

"I've known Ron a very, very long time -- I like to think of Ron Paul as 'The Conscience,'" DeLay said. "You've always got to have a conscience."

"We've got to be on the ground," said DeLay, when asked how Republicans could stop a second Clinton presidency. "Grassroots is more important today than money."

Actually, I was in Newt’s district at that time. He won the election that year handily, probably with 75-76% of the vote, if I remember correctly. A VERY short time after that, maybe even a matter of a couple of weeks, he resigned, and soon after came the announcement that he was divorcing his wife and marrying Calista Bisek. You can’t tell me that this all happened overnight, it had to be brewing for awhile. And right around that time, Larry Flynt was making noises about having “the goods” on prominent Republicans. Sure, he’s constantly making that claim, but I had to wonder if Newt resigned because he knew he was about to be outed by Flynt.

I was disappointed and angry with Newt at the time, because I really was a supporter of his and I had voted for him. As for what to think about him now, I do believe he’s brilliant and he’s full of great ideas. But always in the back of my mind, I have to think that the way you treat the person who is supposed to be the most important person in your life will carry over to the way you treat other people. It does affect my ability to trust him.

The House was lost because Delay was taken out of action by a rogue prosecutor who concocted bogus charges to gain an indictment.

The fact that Delay is now coming out means he is beating the charges and is rejoining the fight.

Delay is a master election strategist. The GOP needs him yesterday.

That same rogue prosecutor was recently revealed as being a member of a men's group that frolics nude in the woods and has weird little naked rituals.

And we let Tom get tossed out by this clown? Sick.

It’s part of a pattern.

Remember that same year the Proscutors in Florida trying to frame Rush Limbaugh over his pain meds?

Or the recent threat against Ann Coulter for registering to vote from out of state?

And so many others.

Any prominent and successful conservative is stalked until an opening is found from which to launch a bogus attack.

I, too was a big supporter of Newt, though not a resident of GA but did donate to his "GOPAC" and attended some of their functions.

I even used to receive tapes from GOPAC on helping identify potential conservative candidates and help them to win elections.

I was very disappointed in what I thought strange behavior regarding Clinton and Monica, etc.

You are correct, right after being reelected, he stepped down and it was announced that the would be divorcing Marianne and marrying Calista, an "aide."

Whether his marriage to Marianne was for purely political reasons or not, he did leave wife #1 to marry her.

Same shades of Rudy, if a guy is that dishonest to two wives, after praying in front of "God and these witnesses....." then rarely can he be trusted with something so precious as our government.
