DeLay spoke highly of former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and Ron Paul, a Pittsburgh-area native and Texas congressman who DeLay had succeeded in 1985.

"I've known Ron a very, very long time -- I like to think of Ron Paul as 'The Conscience,'" DeLay said. "You've always got to have a conscience."

That's not any endorsement by Tom who is currently endorsing "Undecided". But it does show that the two men have had a warm relationship over the years, something some other FReepers have denied.

Curious....... What brought Delay to an event like this? Was it someone he’s working as a lobbyist for, one of the local/state candidates, or has he been hired and put on the speaking circuit by the national GOP?

From the article:
...DeLay’s appearance at the Republican Committee of Allegheny County event clearly energized a group of party faithful stumping for judicial and sheriff candidates, as well as Pittsburgh GOP mayoral hopeful Mark DeSantis.

DeLay, due to his love fest with lobbyists and free spending antics, is responsible more than anyone for the loss of the House this past election.

"I've known Ron a very, very long time -- I like to think of Ron Paul as 'The Conscience,'" DeLay said. "You've always got to have a conscience."

"We've got to be on the ground," said DeLay, when asked how Republicans could stop a second Clinton presidency. "Grassroots is more important today than money."

Tom Delay gets the Ron Paul Revolution

"If we are going to survive as a party, we have to understand ... it takes social conservatives," he said. "It takes fiscal conservatives. It takes national security conservatives. It takes judicial conservatives."

This is the same Delay who said in 2005 that there was no fat left to cut in the budget? Well, I guess he's hoping 3 out of 4 isn't bad.
