“when I look at candidates. I also take the measure of their appeal to other voters.”
Hillary appeals to a lot of people...
That doesnt mean Im going to vote for her....
Ron Paul “won” the cell phone poll tonight...
That doesnt mean Im going to vote for him...

Cutting off your nose to spite your face got us Clinton 1. Is it worth it get Clinton 2 (and 1 in there again)...
I want Fred to get in the race soon. Rudy’s a bit too goofy on national ID card and is certainly bad on 2nd amendment. However.. We can’t allow a democrat 2008 win.
We need to show Fred our support. And Hunter and Tancredo.

Thompson is not lacking in courage, but he is playing the election game smart. You don't enter into a battle while your enemies are busy defeating each other. You wait it out and when your enemies are battle weary, you walk in and finish them off.
I think the present field of candidates are all idiots for getting involved this early. Why are we having debates eight months before the first primaries? By the time the primaries come along we will all be bored out of our minds with these clowns. These early debates do nothing more than expose the weaknesses in these guys. Everything we learn about these guys will be forgotten by september, when the real election cycle begins. IMO these guys are just pissing away their campaign treasuries by going at it so early.
I didn't watch the debate because it is irrelevant at this point. All I know about this group is that Rudy is totally unacceptable.

"Yeah, Rudy, but we're talking about New York City here. Anyone to the right to Karl Marx is conservative by NYC standards. Might as well argue Joe Stalin is he's the most pro-capitalist premier of the Soviet Union in 50 years" Excellent! Let's just pass that on to Hunter, Thompson, Gilmore, et al. Surely one of them would have the guts to take on the fabrication.

Fred doesnt look well or energetic to me.
Im not sure hes up to a run.
That's one of my big concerns about Fred Thompson--whether it's health or simply lack of desire to run. I understand the people who say they don't trust someone who wants passionately to be President, but at the same time, it's going to be a long hard fight against a vicious opponent, and someone who doesn't have the will or energy to fight, simply isn't going to win.
Looking back, someone earlier in this thread mentioned the first President Bush. I've always thought that part of the reason that he lost that second term was that he was running more out of duty than out of a strong desire to win.

Tancredo DID shine tonite, which is a shame, since he is COMPLETELY unelectable....
The ten million Hispanic Voters will see to that (PLUS the 5-10 million ILLEGAl Hispanic voters Dems will sign up by election day...)

Depressing blackmail situation that you describe. But it is reality. You basically can’t be open anti-illegals and anti-jihad and win it seems.

Conservatives found Rush with or without Falwell... Actually I went hunting for him on the radio because I heard Tom Snyder bad mouthing Rush one night so I thought anyone Snyder hates I would love...He likely would not have had a show because let's face it the MSM and their parent companies don't like the Conservative message neither does the RNC for that matter. The best thing that could have happened for the conservative movement nationwide was destroyed in it's early stages as it was becoming a threat to elected and protected RINO's.
Sometime in the mid 1990's maybe 1994 Paul Weyrich launched a TV Station Conservative Based called National Empowerment Television. You may have seen what was it's later demise called America's Voice. I was what could have been. Fox News reporter Major Garrett was involved in the project as was Falwell, Bill Lind, Janet Parshall, Tom Fitton, Paul Rodriquez, and many others. Weyrich was the first one sounding the alarm about the house and senate selling us out right after they took their oaths in 1995.

"...almost surprised the Ron Paul didnt blame illegal drugs for causing 9/11."
No, libertarians would blame the illegality of drugs for causing 9/11. : O]
I'm joking, I'm with the libertarians on a lot of issues. But not the WoT, I don't buy into their historical determinism worldview, which I think is based on some kind of Platonic idealization process which rejects the messyness and limitations of knowability of the real world.
Only some of them are wacky, so I wouldn't make generalizations or cast personal aspersions. A lot of them are good and in general alignment with most conservative principles. But enough of them are "out there" to keep the Libertarian Party permanently ineffective. Basically it's a bunch of independent-minded and often autodidactic thinkers marching to the tunes of their own drummers, hard for them to agree on stuff even within their own outfit.

I'm a woman, and in general, "Mom-age", and I want a candidate who's mean! My major dislike of President Bush is that I think he's tried to be too much of a nice guy. (Where's that veto pen, anyway?)
To: Mariebl
Having the mainstream media quickly cut to George H. W. Bush looking at his watch over and over again during the Presidential debates didn’t help with President Bush’s re-election chances either.
To: Tolsti
Meanwhile, every liberal site on the Internet is hyping Ron Paul as the second coming of Moses...
It’s actually a pretty sad situation. Republicans should NOT be debating this early...

Rudy does not want a National ID card. He has maintained all along, it would be for non-citizens only, people who enter the US, so that they can be tracked while they are here, and leave when their visa expires.

Cutting off your nose to spite your face got us Clinton 1. Is it worth it get Clinton 2 (and 1 in there again)... No a 1000 points of Poppy Bush and No New Taxes plus mismanagement of Gulf War one got us Bill Clinton. The nation expected Reagan and got the 180 degree opposite instead. Poppy lost because he was a liberal or the Rockefeller sect. Had Poppy simply stuck to the Reagan Doctorine then Perot would have likely remained silent or even supported him.

Im almost surprised the Ron Paul didnt blame illegal drugs for causing 9/11. Libertarians, when it comes down to it, are utterly impossible to debate with. The madness spews. Its very, very close to Marxist/Leninist/Chomsky mentality. I am not surprised at all.
