The purpose of this thread will be to pool our resources and ideas to counter the attempted take-over of our nation’s capital and foreign policy.

It is not the place to voice your disgust with those that feel it is necessary to present a street presence to counter the dregs of society seeking to undermine and destroy our country and our leadership. If that is your purpose, please move along.

On January 27, 2007, Thunder90 posted a thread to advise us of the next convergence on our nations capital by the anti-American hate-mongers. This gives us SEVEN WEEKS to organize and strategerize.

While reading Thuder90’s thread and the AAR from the DC Chapter’s counter demonstration last Saturday, January 27th, you will find inquiries in regard to transportation, hotels, metro lines and the like. There were also a number of Freepmails discussing these issues.

For those interested in making our presence known in Washington, DC on March 17, 2007 please feel free to offer what you can.

· If you are driving and have room for others, let us know the general vicinity you will begin the trip. I have an offer now of someone willing to pay for half the gas to share a ride.

· We already have offers of rooms/beds for those that need a place to stay. We can always use more!

· Perhaps you can rally enough interest in your area that renting a van or chartering a bus would be worthwhile. Let us know and we will see if that can be arranged.

· Those that live in the greater DC area or will have a vehicle at your disposal may be able to help shuttle folks from hotels or metro stations.

· We may need wheel chairs and those to push them.

· Those that have blogs, talk shows, columns or access to others that do – please share!

There are no formal plans at this time. Why plan a big rally/counterdemonstration if no one plans to attend?

Rest assured the DC Chapter faithful, with assistance from local citizens and troops, will be in DC on March 17th between 11:00 AM and however long it takes to ensure our presence is known.

I have decided to post my response to the FReepmails right here. Frankly, I have grown weary of the back-alley, stab-you-in-the-back, everyone wants to be a star, crap that has been going on.

After the paltry turnout and despicable actions of the commies on January 27th, my intention with this thread was to rally the FReepers and Veterans to come together and connect in a helpful way presenting a real show of force in numbers to counter the March 17th anti-war protest.

It was my hope that our wounded warriors would not have to represent a third of those that chose to take a stand for America and her men and women in uniform. They are healing from wounds suffered fighting on the foreign battlefields and felt the need to leave the hospital to fight on the domestic battlefield of Washington, DC. That is a sad and pathetic commentary on the American people who claim to support our troops.

I reasoned having ONE thread, with only pertinent information, would enable folks to quickly find what they needed to plan and organize.
Some say if the announcement of an event is made too soon, folks lose interest.
Others say when they learn of an event too late, they have no time to make arrangements.

If folks would simply read, the intent of this thread was boldly stated in the FIRST line.....

I have made an honest attempt to add and promote all other threads, ideas and organizations joining the fight with periodic updates. When the back-alley approach was taken to undermine the coming together of housing and transportation...I stopped posting the info.

When the GOE was announced 8 days later, I included it in my updates, although no one bothered to inform me WHAT GOE was and WHAT it was about. Two days after that a GOE flyer was debuted. I promoted that, but still had NO IDEA what the heck it was. As others joined the movement, I included them in the updates.

At this time 104 FReepers have committed to attending the rally and 12 have stated they are attempting to attend. Out of these 116, only 9 represent DC Chapter regulars.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those that will be in DC March 17th to defend our monuments and our country. May God Bless you on this important mission.

Here is what I wrote to the National Commander of the American Legion:

Dear Commander:

As a 35 year member of the American Legion, as a veteran of combat in Vietnam and as a person who, in his 35 year career as a law enforcement officer committed to the rule of law, I respectfully ask you to publicly support the Gathering of Eagles to be held at the Vietnam Memorial in Washington D.C. on Saturday, March 17.

The Gathering of Eagles is a truly grass-roots action to both physically and symbolically protect the memorial from the leftists and anarchists who have had the "run of the streets" for too long. That they are portrayed as representatives of the "will of the people" is, at least partly because we, the mainstream American people and veterans have been silent for so long. It is time to take back the streets!

Thanks for your thoughts. As kristinn would tell you, I am one of the newest DC Chapter members. Haven't been able to attend any of these events but believe me March 17th is on my calendar--I will be there. Hanoi Jane and her cronies will not get to the wall. I am not a Vietnam vet but I did spend 20 years on active duty in the Air Force, with lots of combat and combat support time in central Europe (Kosovo) and Southwest Asia. I remember what Hanoi Jane did. She will not be allowed to deface the wall. She will never be able to live down her treachery. We will never forget. Patriotism lives!

I sent an email to the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars last week, right after Rolling Thunder and the Military Order of the Purple Heart signed on with the Gathering of Eagles. No response from either, yet.

Maybe other Freepers, vets and members should also send emails, to get their attention?

On October 21, 1967, 70,000 demonstrators came to Washington, D.C. to "Confront the War Makers."

You can read the details in Mailer's Armies of the Night - "a Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award-winning nonfiction novel written by Norman Mailer and sub-titled History as a Novel/The Novel as History. Mailer essentially creates his own genre for the narrative, split into historicized and novelized accounts of the October 1967 March on the Pentagon. Mailer's unique rendition of the non-fiction novel (a form coined, at least, in 1965) was one of only a few at the time, and received the most critical attention."

This genre was later used to great success by Bob Woodward.

I was at FT Bragg in Basic Training at the time. They sent a contigent of the 82nd up to guard the Pentagon.

It's a massive editorial screwup by the Associated Press.

They ran a long story yesterday that had the correct date (March 17th) for the protest/counter, and it also mentioned that March 20th was the 4th anniversary of the invasion of Iraq. Apparently somebody at "AP Broadcast" did some very sloppy editing, to make the story short enough for nightly news broadcasts, and they used the wrong date for the protest.

I saw the glaring error in the AP "broadcast" story at around 1pm. I called AP's DC offices then and the woman I talked to said that the AP story she had was the long one that they published last night. I told her that the story with the incorrect date (March 20 instead of March 17) was posted on, at that time, 37 different TV station websites across the US.

She said, "Oh! That would be AP Broadcast. They probably took our long story and shortened it for broadcast purposes." She said she would try to get in touch with someone.

Not accepting that AP would fix their mistake in anything resembling a timely manner, I looked up a phone number for the AP Broadcast people and called them. (1-800-821-4747 ) I talked to a guy named Rudy and told him that the date was incorrect in the story that they sent out to their TV broadcast customers, and I gave him a link to the GOE website so he could see that I wasn't pulling his leg. That was as 1:43PM.

He said he would check it out and see if he could get a correction out.

I received a phone call back from Rudy at 3:09PM and he asked me the same questions that he had asked 1-1/2 hours earlier; and he said he would try and get the story corrected.

Well, at 6PM the inaccurate story was still up on the stations that subscribe to the AP Broadcast news service (around 200).

And those TV stations are reporting the incorrect information on their evening news,

So now all the television stations that pay good money for AP's professional services are reporting an inaccurate news story, 5 hours after AP was informed that key information in their story was wrong.

ALERT!!!

ANSWER's marching route to the Pentagon will take them close to Arlington National Cemetery.

ANSWER's bus pickup and drop off points. Notice the cemetery is in close proxmity, and that ANSWER will march protesters near it to get to the rally at the Pentagon. Again, another memorial to soldiers is at risk.
