Life long republican - Drive by troll
Posted on 04/30/2006 7:25:29 AM PDT by Sara F
All my life, I believed in Republican values -- individual responsibility and limited government. Then it happened; I found myself with a small child, unemployed and disabled. I turned to my church, and after years of regular tithes, suddenly I just wasn't their problem. My Republican friends? I was now a pariah to them.
My only relief was to turn to government assistance for housing, food, and other needs and I was able to survive with dignity.
So chalk me up as one who no longer drinks the GOP koolaid.

Wow. Unemployed, small child AND disabled??? I have found myself unemployed and have had great difficulty finding a job. I do not blame Republicans. I blame my previous employer. And as for your church turning it's collective back on you.......try the new Methodist Church. They are soooo left-wing these days that I can't believe they would turn you away. They love sad stories and you have a triple-dinger going. Good luck.

Anyone ever figure out how the small child got there?
She thinks it was from a public bathroom.

No wonder it rained so hard. We gave the weather genie a double whammy.

Sorry for your problems. What are you doing to solve them? They are your responsibility, you know.

All my life, I believed in Republican values -- individual responsibility and limited government. And when it came down to it you you were lying to yourself. And now you admit that your don't believe in individual responsibility. LOL

Isn't it amazing how many people believe in personal responsibility right up to the moment they actually have to accept some?

The bottom line on the OP's post is that, assuming any of it is true, she hit some bad luck. Government programs are appropriate for such a situation -- PROVIDED SHE EXPLORED HELP FROM HER FAMILY, WHO SHE DID NOT PREVIOUSLY TRASH TO THE EXTENT THAT THEY DIDN'T WANT TO HELP.
The difference in conservatives, who are compassionate, and liberals (who usually are not), is that conservatives recognize such a situation as rare. Liberals want to think it is typical and that all on welfare are on it because there was NOTHING ELSE THEIR ENTIRE LIVES THEY COULD HAVE DONE.
There almost always is. They could have worked harder and saved more. Speaking of which, how is the OP unemployed when unemployment is 2.9% in Texas. Move.

Interesting ... I do not know any Republicans who would refuse temporary assistance to someone truly in need. I also have never seen or heard of a church that does not step in to help with temporary assistance.
I have a few questions ... where did the child come from .. suddenly appear?
Why are you unemployed .... poor attitude maybe?
How about sell your computer and use the money for living expenses, also cancel your cell phone, cable TV and all those extras ...
Really it is hard to believe your story.

You should have talked to Jack French Kemp before you switched parties. He would have had the compassion to explain things to you.

I also bought some more tomato plants to replace the ones I put out that got zapped by frost. This morning, I realized I forgot to cover them......again. Now I have to buy MORE tomato plants and I'll never vote Republican again! Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

We just found Banana Slugs feasting on some of our new plants. Sure enough, two of them had small "Jeb Bush for President" bumper stickers on them.
