The bottom line on the OP's post is that, assuming any of it is true, she hit some bad luck. Government programs are appropriate for such a situation -- PROVIDED SHE EXPLORED HELP FROM HER FAMILY, WHO SHE DID NOT PREVIOUSLY TRASH TO THE EXTENT THAT THEY DIDN'T WANT TO HELP.
The difference in conservatives, who are compassionate, and liberals (who usually are not), is that conservatives recognize such a situation as rare. Liberals want to think it is typical and that all on welfare are on it because there was NOTHING ELSE THEIR ENTIRE LIVES THEY COULD HAVE DONE.

Conservatives are compassionate and donate from their own funds. Liberals are compassionate too and they donate from the funds they confiscate from conservatives.
