UNITED 93 FReeper Reviews
self | April 28, 2006 | RobFromGa

Posted on 04/28/2006 1:21:50 PM PDT by RobFromGa

Just saw United 93-- I thought it was excellent. It evolves in real-time and its cuts back and forth between the Air Traffic controllers, the Military room, and the plane.

It was somewhat shocking to watch the level of confusion in terms of what was going on, but when you see what information that they were dealing with, it makes sense.

The hijackers to me came across more as fanatical than evil, and they were not turban-wearing obvious characters, they were cleaned up and I ride on planes with people like them on every flight I take.

In the movie, they are carrying out the plans of others and are obsessive in their task. We are not fighting an enemy that is likely to be reasoned with.

There is one character that I'm glad they included- he has a European *maybe French* accent and he makes a number of comments along the lines of "If we do what they say, they'll spare our lives"-- typical appeasement mentality.

Thanks to this group of heroes, many thousands of lives may have been spared and we kept the Islamic nuts from claiming the Capitol or White House as a prize.

I give in 9.5/10!

I thought that the military came across as unprepared. . . . .

. . . . for which we all can thank Mr. Clinton. Bush had only been in office for 7-8 months yet I'm sure some lib has sniffed that he should've had everything up and running like a Caddillac by then.

See it to honor their memory.

That's more or less what I told my better half. I knew it could be upsetting but we owe it to their heroism and to our heroes who have died since... fighting these insane madmen.

Watch "A Night To Remember". It is the "United 93" of the Titanic story. It was a close to the real thing as they could get.

"Too soon" really means too close to election time.

I don't think so, eye witnesses claim it went inverted and crashed out of sight. If it hit inverted, that would explain the engine being thrown away from the wreckage.

Yeah. I had forgotten about that smell. I guess I have not been around anything to remind me of it.

Must be the smell of evil. I don't ask why anymore when I observe the catastrophic events that have happened and complete idiocy of many in this country (illegal alien lovers and apologists, in your face homosexuality, sick entertainment, mean and hateful crime, growing persecution of all things Christian, tweaking the truth, etc.)

I am convinced Satan is working overtime on all things everywhere. Maybe cause his day's are numbered.

I saw the movie and I was amazed at how the air traffic controllers mocked the one co-worker that was monitoring some 2 or 3 of the highjacked airplanes.

"Ha Ha, HiJacking - we haven't had one of those in 20 years"

"We haven't seen a highjacking since like 1991."

All I have to say is these guys are morons - and they were old - adults.

I recall when these happened and at the time I had not even flown once in my life, I was a kid.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FedEx_Flight_705

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethiopian_Airlines_Flight_961

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EgyptAir_Flight_990

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_Airlines_Flight_814

Now, I must say that the last 2 (1 not being a complete highjacking) motivated the 9/11 Suicide Bombers.

I can bet that Osama Bin Laden used the EgyptAir_Flight_990 and the Indian_Airlines_Flight_814 as success stories.

That said, I also think that not all the highjackers on 9/11 knew that they would die.

Bin Laden would not risk having 20 people know that they would be on a mass sucide mission. He knows that criminals crack and rat, even his own muslims, so he only shared it with the 4 murderous pilots.

The other terrorist, I'm sure, were told that these highjackings would be as successful as the Indian_Airlines_Flight_814 where the terrorists escaped in vehicles provided them.

The movie overall was great.

Many years ago I worked for a man who was in the military at the end of WWII. He was in a division that came upon one of the concentration camps. I can't remember which one.

All he told me was that it was a sight he still couldn't comprehend and that he never talks about it, because the enormity of it was something he was unable to put into words.

I saw the aftermath of the Cerritos-Aero Mexico crash. There were bodies (mostly parts)and pieces of the DC 9(?)hundreds of yards from the impact.
When I look at photos of the Pentagon strike, it don't look right to me. But FReepers who I have come to respect, assure me that it was a commercial airliner that hit the building.
(Just got back from seeing United 93 - it was surreal to me)

I didn't think the profanity was excessive or gratuitous, compared with your average R-rated movie. The dialog moves pretty fast so I might have missed some of it. There is about as much profanity per minute in some other R movies as there is in this entire movie.

Where the profanity is used is ENTIRELY appropriate....they are fighting for their LIVES....

I saw the movie this afternoon.....I'm still PISSED.....that's what it did to me....made me MADDER.

I went with my sister and her boyfriend. It's a good thing we brought a lot of tissues.

It was so realistic, and I saw that a lot of the professionals in the traffic control center played themselves.

It was an evening showing and the theater was about 70% full. A LOT of young people. I hope they learned something.

I think the wife of one of the family members said they waited because they were over a populated area and they waited until they were over the unpopulated fields of PA before they took action

From what I saw on the news accounts of the flight the plane flew north of Pittsburgh.

Weren't there also about 10 people who survived on a stairwell area? Some firefighters and a big heavy set woman named Josephine.

Sounds like the patrons did a mini 93 on the 20 somethings!

"That's good somebody of his age is so interested in seeing this. All the young ones at the theaters I saw tonight were all waiting to see one of the other movies playing."

Hmmm. Had the exact opposite experience at the late show tonite. Most of the folks seeing the film were in their twenties. The theater was about half full.

The Saturday 4:15 showing in Ogden, Utah was more than half filled. The stunned faces as we walked out.....

In the crowded ladies' room post movie, not one word was spoken. Many women were dabbing their eyes.

I find it a sad state of affairs that people have politicized this movie. The people on that plane were not Republicans or Democrats. They were Americans. God bless them all.

I will be seeing it tomorrow.

I have to say that coming here and posting my thoughts has been quite cathartic and strangely comforting, if a little bit long. Sorry about that. God bless those brave souls and God bless America.

Thank you for such a beautiful synopsis and analysis of the film. We went to the late showing this evening. My perceptions match yours almost 100%. You did a wonderful job of putting it into words. I also agree with you: "God bless those brave souls and God bless America."

I demanded that our 14-year old daughter go with us. She thought it would be a boring documentary but was very moved by it. Just talk a lot about it afterward. I reminded her that Allah is NOT translated as "God". That pi$$ed me off.
