Just saw United 93-- I thought it was excellent. It evolves in real-time and its cuts back and forth between the Air Traffic controllers, the Military room, and the plane.
It was somewhat shocking to watch the level of confusion in terms of what was going on, but when you see what information that they were dealing with, it makes sense.
The hijackers to me came across more as fanatical than evil, and they were not turban-wearing obvious characters, they were cleaned up and I ride on planes with people like them on every flight I take.
In the movie, they are carrying out the plans of others and are obsessive in their task. We are not fighting an enemy that is likely to be reasoned with.
There is one character that I'm glad they included- he has a European *maybe French* accent and he makes a number of comments along the lines of "If we do what they say, they'll spare our lives"-- typical appeasement mentality.
Thanks to this group of heroes, many thousands of lives may have been spared and we kept the Islamic nuts from claiming the Capitol or White House as a prize.
I give in 9.5/10!
Actually the Focus on the Family review was pretty positive.
They note the profanity because they know parents want to know these things in deciding whether the film is appropriate for their children.
Also, one interesting note ... Sliney himself says that he was asked to exaggerate the profanity ... so it wasn't strictly "realism":
Sliney did note, however, one thing that was exaggerated for the film: profanity. "They asked me to swear, which I customarily don't do. ... I wanted on that day to be calm and authoritative for all the people on the floor. In a stressful situation, they don't want to see the person in charge getting excited." That added vulgarity is perhaps the only obvious box-office concession in a story that in most other ways is not typical Tinseltown fare.
Yep
That's why so many people can't believe a huge jet hit the pentagon cause there was nothing left. That jet also hit the pentagon going full throttle with fuel tanks full. People have a hard time grasping what burning fuel does to buildings and hitting those buildings as fast as possible.
Keep on working on it :)
Just came from seeing Flight 93 less than an hour ago. I have come away with the feeling that we are in a war right now against a ruthless enemy that whats to destroy the people and the country of the United States and our friends in Israel. We must do our best to destroy, kill and eliminate as many Arab Muslims as we can and as quickly and efficently as possible. They are no innocents! Muslim civilians are not innocent if they are joyous and approve of mass murder such as the Sept 11 attacks. They are not nice to us and we have no business trying to be nice and understanding with them. God had no problem killing entire cities of people and animals and then salting the earth in the old testament. We must do the same.
The time is growing very critical...Iran is trying very hard to make atomic bombs. They threaten this country saying they already have many suitcase nukes in the USA now and will set them off if we attack.
We need to act with such complete force and destruction that the muslim world will never think of any kind of terrorist attack again anywhere in the world. The penalty must be so great and terrible for every terrorist attack.
Yes, I know I sound like a nut case....its like the crusades all over again. Its time to thin out the crazy killers of the arab world.
LETS ROLL!!!!
Now, it is back full force...
Let's f*ckin ROLL!
Didn't know about Sliney and the language.
World-wide? We have to wait until 17th August, apparently, in Australia. Which I think bites the big one.
I'll be lobbying for it to be released much sooner.
Thanks.
Hopefully you can pull some strings...
Hopefully as brave as they were...
I hope so also; however, I'm too pessimistic about Hollywood. I doubt they'd give any recognition to any film that (1) didn't change the Muslim terrorists to Nazi's, and (2) didn't have a "strong, committed loving and persecuted" gay male couple as the heroes.
If it was soon enough for the victims' families to show this film, the rest of America can just keep their "sensitive" opinions to themselves. The ones that think it's too soon can stay home.
Sorry to have offended. You were exactly where my husband was, and I am proud of him and grateful for your contribution.
Two martini nights are rare. Not to worry.
Ain't that the truth. Here on FR, I hear enough about what the DUmmies who are elected to Congress have to say and don't have any stomach left for browsing on that sorry excuse for a competitor to Free Republic.
I am very selective nowadays.
I know what you mean. This wasn't just for this movie, however. They break every single movie down like that--violience, sex, negative elements, language. It is a guide for parents.
As a Christian myself, I imagine that my language might be a bit colorful in that situation. I pray that I never have to find out just how colorful.
