Just saw United 93-- I thought it was excellent. It evolves in real-time and its cuts back and forth between the Air Traffic controllers, the Military room, and the plane.
It was somewhat shocking to watch the level of confusion in terms of what was going on, but when you see what information that they were dealing with, it makes sense.
The hijackers to me came across more as fanatical than evil, and they were not turban-wearing obvious characters, they were cleaned up and I ride on planes with people like them on every flight I take.
In the movie, they are carrying out the plans of others and are obsessive in their task. We are not fighting an enemy that is likely to be reasoned with.
There is one character that I'm glad they included- he has a European *maybe French* accent and he makes a number of comments along the lines of "If we do what they say, they'll spare our lives"-- typical appeasement mentality.
Thanks to this group of heroes, many thousands of lives may have been spared and we kept the Islamic nuts from claiming the Capitol or White House as a prize.
I give in 9.5/10!
I'm curious how you devined that from the film. All we have to go on are cockpit voice recorders. I think Greengrass was smart in making it a united effort. Specifically, no one person "took control". Each person portrayed had their own strengts. Burnett kept cool and was collected, etc. I think it was appropriate also to portray that not all of us can assume such courage under a circumstance like this. I would guess roughly 20 people on that flight made an attempt to enter the cockpit. That's just smart storytelling. Could you be sure you could make such a stand? I myself do not know for sure.
Hi all, just came from the movie tonight. I feel like I just returned from a funeral. It was just like Rush said " people walked out like they were leaving a funeral". Quite and not a word spoken till the parking lot. I lost it three times, first when the plane hit the Twin Towers, second when they were calling everyone and saying "I love you" and of course the end. The theatre was full house.
Montgomery County...the Peoples Republic of Maryland.
Glad to hear it was full, I think I'll go again tomorrow...
I won't see it again until it comes out on DVD.
It's the fiddleheads and the dulse ;-)
Direct from Focus on the Family's site (Family.org) I think direct link is: unpluggedonline.com/movies
Review of language in film:
As it becomes clear that terrorists have successfully hijacked multiple planes, characters at the air-traffic control centers swear frequently. They take God's or Jesus' name in vain about 30 times (including at least four instances of "g--d--n"). The f- and s-words are each used half-a-dozen times.
That site will give you very detailed information of movies at the cinema, including violence, sexual content, spiritual, content, bad thematic elements, etc. Before I take my children to the movies, I check this site out. It has been very helpful to me. By the way, I saw parents with teenagers, and then one with a five-year-old in the theatre today. Now THAT (the little one) was highly inappropriate, IMO.
Thank you and God bless you.
Take care.
I agree, it was nicely done.
The terrorists probably directed the plane to the ground to kill everybody, they just crazy, it's not like fighting with other country over something.
I asked my girlfriend after the movie what will she do in the situation like this, she said "I would cut somebodies throat with my teeth" - I think I would do the same, never surrender!
It's just the spirit of FREE MEN.
The People's Republic of Hazleton PA, Luzerne County. We went to the 7:30pm showing.
Great comments, glad you posted them and that they made you feel a little better.
Never Forget.
I know a good divorce lawyer ;-)
I don't think it was. But I didn't like the looks of it.
The actor who played him was portrayed taking the lead, and the transcipt (I think)bears that out. I think a second look at the movie will convince you. But of course he did not act alone. As often in such cases. there are several who join in and form a team. But there are other example of leadershiop coming to the fore. the FAA leader; the general. He respects the process and then when it breaks down, he acts in accordance with his own lights. Just think: one man, not the president of the United States, decides to ground all the planes in the United States and such is the degree of professionalism that it is accomplished in a few hours. I am sure that AlQaida never dreamed that this was possible.
here is my review of the movie.
First of all, this is not one of those movies like Godzilla, Titanic, Spiderman, that throw a bunch of special effects your way. They did not have the payroll for that. This movie was well done for being a lower budget production.
The movie was powerfull and tense. There is not much holywood added drama to it. It took you back to that morning. It took you into the control rooms at Boston Center and Cleveland Center. It shows you the confusion that air traffic controllers had to deal with on that horrible day. It brings the shock of 9/11 back to you. It took you onto United Flight 93. I felt like I was on the plane with them. You see that they are just regular people and any of us could have been a victim of 9/11. The terrorists are shown accurately. I do not believe there is any anti Islamic or any political agenda behind the film. The courage of the people aboard Flight 93 is what I consider to be the best part of the movie. The war on terrorism started on United Flight 93 with those passengers. The movie shows their emotions and their fear. When it is over, you may be mad, you may be sad and you may be shocked by how real the film seems to be.
The movie will remind you that there are people who want to destroy us. There is evil in the world.
This movie is important and was released at the right time.
Never forget the lessons of September 11, 2001.
..but good grief, I am sure that Mr. Dobson himself will find himself swearing if he was in the same position as the military were on 9/11. Chaos, confusion, horror, shock were the rule on 9/11.
Please. We are human.
/rant over/
Actually I was thinking "we should have just nuked the whole middle east". I guess I did not find them likeable.
