UNITED 93 FReeper Reviews
self | April 28, 2006 | RobFromGa

Just saw United 93-- I thought it was excellent. It evolves in real-time and its cuts back and forth between the Air Traffic controllers, the Military room, and the plane.

It was somewhat shocking to watch the level of confusion in terms of what was going on, but when you see what information that they were dealing with, it makes sense.

The hijackers to me came across more as fanatical than evil, and they were not turban-wearing obvious characters, they were cleaned up and I ride on planes with people like them on every flight I take.

In the movie, they are carrying out the plans of others and are obsessive in their task. We are not fighting an enemy that is likely to be reasoned with.

There is one character that I'm glad they included- he has a European *maybe French* accent and he makes a number of comments along the lines of "If we do what they say, they'll spare our lives"-- typical appeasement mentality.

Thanks to this group of heroes, many thousands of lives may have been spared and we kept the Islamic nuts from claiming the Capitol or White House as a prize.

I give in 9.5/10!

Actually I'm sitting here right now in the theatre (on my Blackberry) because I was just watching Flight 93 on A&E. I wasn't going to see the movie, but the show really made me change my mind. So if anything, it was a good thing that A&E decided to run it tonight.

I'm sure by now they are being convinced that the Holocaust was a hoax.

OK, dusted off my Level 4 biohazard suit and went in. First thing I got to see was the poll where 47% (43 votes, by the way), think that Flight 93 was shot down by a jet fighter and 31% (28 votes) don't know what to believe but the government was definitely lying!!!!!!

They are coming from near and far to vote in this poll!

sounds like it should be shown in high school history classes .

Don't hold your breath. They are too busy showing videos about famous gays in history.

You are very brave.

If you want to make yourself really sick, go to the official United 93 movie site. They have a messageboard that has been completely filtrated by conspiracy trolls. They have all these pictures and links and the "30 Questions"(insert eerie music here).

It is beyond nauseating--especially since family members of United 93 post and read there.

After seeing the movie, I may just go over there, sign up and give them a piece of my mind! Nah. On second thought, they're not worth my time. They can fester in their own slime.

As it becomes clear that terrorists have successfully hijacked multiple planes, characters at the air-traffic control centers swear frequently. They take God's or Jesus' name in vain about 30 times (including at least four instances of "g--d--n"). The f- and s-words are each used half-a-dozen times.

Wow...and ouch. I knew there would be profanity but no idea that it would be the Big Lebowski. Guess I wont be taking the nieces after all.

Is Flight 93 lots better than the Flight 93 on A & E?

I didn't think it was "lots better," but rather different. Of course you see this one on a big screen, with a mega sound system - so the music and peripheral sounds are more important.

The A&E version focused much more on the families of the passengers and much less on ATC and the military. If the names of the characters were even mentioned in the new film, I didn't notice. You couldn't miss their names on A&E. The movies pretty much converged when it came to the action on-board Flight 93.

I think we need lots of these movies. One could be called Giuliani, another NYPD 911, and a third Towering Inferno II. People need to be remided often about what happened. Maybe someone will make another called Islamic Swine.

I'd probably go see that too.

Should the Democrats regain Congress and the Presidency in the next few years, mark my words, the terrorists will start acting up in this country, on this very land.

The only satisfaction I will have would be to say to the DUmmies that they were just waiting for the wimps to be "in charge."

Should be INfiltrated, thank you very much.

I think it's time for beddy-bye.;^)

This whole "it's too soon" thing is so suspect. From what I recall, the overreaction to the movie's trailers a few weeks ago happened in one theater. I may be wrong and it's late and I'm too tired to do research.

Whatever - it's been blown up so much that a nurse I work with asked my opinion and she thought it was too soon. I retorted, geez they were showing WWII movies before the thing ended and all she could say was "this is different." Couldn't explain why.

Thanks. Here's an interesting post from another thread.

FReeper eastbound posted this.

"After reading down through the bottom of the Flight 93 page, this quote may suggest that the passengers may have actually managed to re-take control of the plane and bring it out of it's dive, but not quite in time.

If the plane dove straight in at the speed given, there would have been no re-bounding of the plane or plane parts, I don't think. The quote shows that part of an engine landed 300 feet from where the plane augered in. I'd guess it was beginning to level off after the passengers dispensed with the highjackers/suicidal-homicidal crazies before it crashed and the engine fan hit at an angle that would allow it to bounce and continue forward after first impact. Just a guess.

"Jeff Reinbold, the National Park Service representative responsible for the Flight 93 National Memorial, confirms the direction and distance from the crash site to the basin: just over 300 yards south, which means the fan landed in the direction the jet was traveling. "It's not unusual for an engine to move or tumble across the ground," says Michael K. Hynes, an airline accident expert who investigated the crash of TWA Flight 800 out of New York City in 1996. "When you have very high velocities, 500 mph or more," Hynes says, "you are talking about 700 to 800 ft. per second. For something to hit the ground with that kind of energy, it would only take a few seconds to bounce up and travel 300 yards." Numerous crash analysts contacted by PM concur."

I watched it this afternoon - it's just heart wrenching. It was so sad to hear those passengers talk about their kids at the beginning of the film and knowing that they will never see them again.

I was so emotional I had to leave before the movie ended.

-I love the unravelling of the hijackers as they realize that the passengers are blowing them off and plotting something. The terrorists become the terrorized.

Good point. I especially despised the smaller one - the one who was so anxious to get the hi-jacking started. I saw the movie this afternoon and still replaying it in my head. I found I had my hands clinched into fists during the final moments as the passengers made their move. And I didn't think I was a violent person. But you are sooo there and so wanting to help.

No one left during our showing and we were still sitting in complete silence as the credits rolled.
