The suicide bomber was most likely adjusting his bomb belt in the restroom when it detonated prematurely. The subway was probably his intended target. Funny how they are hiding the race of the bomber. Wanna bet he was a muslim?

Terrorists and insurgents are the same thing if both are rebelling against a civilian government!

I don't think so. An insurgent could theoretically use terrorism as a tactic, but a terrorist isn't necessarily an insurgent, is he? To me, terrorist means someone who employs terrorism. I don't like IEDs blowing up our troops anymore than anyone else does, but I don't consider that terrorism. I do consider it part of the insurgency, which is the resistance to the political change taking place in Iraq. Terrorism, as far as I can tell, has to do with committing acts designed to instill fear in people, by attacking civilians and civilian targets. The terms should be descriptive, not derogatory. I can decide who to despise just by being told what they did. I don't need moral guidance from the media. Just tell me what they did.

I hear you.

We stay away from crowds too.

It's safer that way. Why tempt trouble?

It was a Super Bowl game, therefore it had to be Sunday.

Can't have that second hand smoke.

Why do I have a strange feeling that something like this was behind this person's suicide today?

It not only looks like he got the time wrong, he also miscalculated the amount of explosives required.

Well, this one was just a practice run. He was planning on using more explosives for the real thing. Live and learn. Or not.

Curiously Canada had just changed over to daylight savings time the night before. There might be a tiny chance it had an effect. Next year Canada is going to synchronize with the US.

I don't see why they shouldn't be derogatory when describing the lowest form of life, and I always thought the 'insurgent' was a media euphemism for 'terrorist'.

The detonator most likely misfired and didn't set off the main charge. He was probably making his final preparations for attacking the subway.

Your guess of a recent divorce is as much if not more of a shot in the dark as anything being pondered here today.

The main point is, the only reason I might care why this idiot did this, is so that we can prevent it from happening in the future.

Other than that, I'm glad the B@st&rd only killed himself.

Deadly Blast

A man was killed in an explosion at a coffee shop near one of the city's busiest intersections Sunday.

Police said the blast happened just after 1pm at a Tim Horton’s on Yonge Street north of Bloor.

Officials evacuated a block around the shop as emergency crews investigated the cause.

“We’re taking all precautions for members of the public as you can well imagine on a nice Sunday afternoon like today,” said Insp. Nick Memme of Toronto Police.

The explosion happened in the men’s washroom and Staff Sergeant Dan Cole said the man who was killed wasn’t a Tim Horton’s employee. Fire department spokesman Daryl Fuglerud said he suffered burns to his body.

There was only a small amount of smoke when emergency crews arrived, Fuglerud said.

There are reports that a man had entered the coffee shop with explosives strapped to his body just moments before the blast, but that hasn’t been confirmed.

The explosives disposal unit was called to the scene.

Yonge Street was closed in both directions between Yorkville and Bloor and traffic is backed up in the area. The T.T.C. is operating as usual.

Hours after this incident, another Tim Horton’s was evacuated as a precaution after a suspicious package was spotted.

Emergency Task Force officers were called to the coffee shop at Yonge and Lawrence around 4pm.

Sounds like the famed "Dirty Bathroom Brigade". Their M.O. is to target bathrooms that are dirty and to rid the world of innocent Staph bacteria that are just doing the work others bacteria won't do.

Or something like that....
