The terms should be descriptive, not derogatory. I can decide who to despise just by being told what they did. I don't need moral guidance from the media. Just tell me what they did. I don't see why they shouldn't be derogatory when describing the lowest form of life, and I always thought the 'insurgent' was a media euphemism for 'terrorist'.

Interesting that the media calls them "insurgents" when they agree with them, and calls them "death squads", as they did in the 80's when they disagreed.
Sort of like during the Elian Gonzalas days, they repeatedly denigrated the Cubans in Fla as "mobs".
And yet with every other protest they are kindly shown to be just plain old "protesters".

I don't think insurgent is a euphemism. Neither does the dictionary. It is a word with a specific definition.
