Former IDF Chief-of-Staff, Lt.Gen. Moshe Yaalon, said in an interview with the New York Sun last Thursday that Iraq moved its chemical weapons to Syria six weeks before the war started.
"He transferred the chemical agents from Iraq to Syria, said Yaalon. No one went to Syria to find it.
Yaalons assertion that Saddam Husseins weapons of mass destruction were clandestinely sent to Syria on the eve of the war contradicts President George W. Bushs statement last Wednesday at the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington, D.C., that much of the intelligence on Iraq turned out to be wrong.
Despite his admission to what could be one of the greatest intelligence blunders of all time, Bush defended his decision to remove Saddam Hussein from power.
Given Saddam's history and the lessons of September the 11th, my decision to remove Saddam Hussein was the right decision. Saddam was a threat - and the American people and the world is better off because he is no longer in power, said Bush.
Yaalon, who was IDF Chief-of-Staff from July 2002 June 2005, speculated, however, in April 2004, that Iraq transferred its weapons to another country, such as Syria.
Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has also contended that Iraqs WMD were transferred from Iraq to Syria before the war. In December 2002, Sharon told Israeli television Channel 2 that chemical and biological weapons which Saddam is endeavoring to conceal have been moved from Iraq to Syria."
Syria has long been known to be developing its own chemical weapons of mass destruction. In March 2004, former CIA director George Tenet told the Senate Armed Services Committee that "Damascus has an active CW development and testing program that relies on foreign suppliers for key controlled chemicals suitable for producing CW."
A senior official in the Iraqi embassy, Entifadh Qanbar, generally supported Yaalons claim that Iraq moved its chemical weapons to Syria, but said that his government is basically operating in the dark because it doesnt control its own intelligence agency.
Any one want to speak with Jay Rockefeller on this?
Ya Think???
---------------------------
Saddams WMD's that are likely sitting in a guarded warehouse in Syria will surface one day, and Bush will suddenly be revered; his enemies will look as stupid as Reagans during the 1980's.
SYRIA,SADDAM: both Baath party comrades.
That was my thought. DUH!!!!
The loons will claim he's a neocon tool of Zionist forces or some such other twaddle.
Of course, if it was the RUSSIANS that did move them, and we captured Russian soldiers in the process, who knows what kind of mess that could have led to. IT would have been a true international incident then.
I never cared about the WMD. It was the least reason why we should invade Iraq. So many more important reasons for why we did but they had to go and build the whole thing up on the WMD. Now they're going to be looking for those things like it's the holy grail forever. Iraq's pretty much winding up now. Time to move on to the next regime- Iran.
Reordering the entire region. That's what the invasion was always about and what it should have always been about.
We were fed bad (manipulated?) intelligence on Iraq leading up to the invasion. We won't fall for it again (in Syria or Iran).
do I really have to say it???
"contradicts"?
How difficult could it be (technologically speaking) to spot such a location through aerial or satellite surveillance? Then simply drop a special ops team in to secure the site, and give Assad a choice: abdicate and arrange elections or be "Saddamed".
Reagan's enemies sure do look stupid from a historical perspective...all those grungie nuclear freeze crowds stomping through the streets of the European capitols. What is remembered now are the crowds tearing down sections of the Berlin wall. Peace through strength and intestinal fortitude.
Several years ago, Ya'alon said the same in a Jerusalem Post article.
By who?
"Yaalon: Iraq Moved its Chemical Weapons to Syria Before War"
Ya Think???"
THE REAL SCOOP ON THE WAR IN IRAQ
Bush knew all about this. The French Russians and Germans
removed the WMDs to Syria. Some of the more sensitive material was returned to France, Germany and Russia. These countries had traded weapons, and WMD materials with Saddam for not just oil, but oil development option contract valued at hundreds of millions of dollars. The Oil for Food fiasco was known by the Bush Adminsitration and was one of the prime reasons that Bush invaded Iraq.
This is all secret and classified but one can extrapolate. Literally thousands of Russian trucks streamed out of Iraq into Syria in the weeks before the war, while the troop build ups were happening. Also the most modern French surface to air missles had been deployed around Bagdad International Airport, but had to be left behind by the French who had run out of time to disassemble them. All this was in violation of standing UN orders against rearming Iraq. Some say the oil for food program was actually the "Rearming of Iraq Program" from its inception at the UN. It was also an opportunity for wealthy Dims to take advantage of this cash cow to make an incredible amount of wealth by trading on oil sales internationally.
I wonder how much Clintoon and some of the others made?
Bush had to invade Iraq when he did or Saddam would have been fully rearmed by the French , Russians and Germans
who were hoping to prevent the US from winning Iraq. These countries had hundreds of millions of dollars invested in Iraqui Oil Options. Their mutual goal was to secretly rearm
Saddam and them dictate the price of world oil. They lost.If another year had gone by, and the UN arms embargo had ended as was being demanded at the time by Germany, Russia and France, then the Russians would have been in Iraq, training the Iraqi Army. Things would have been much more difficult for our military.
Now why doesn't Bush reveal all this to the US public? Because he would have to severe diplomatic relations with Germany , France and Russia. This way W laid the screws to them, forced the back door buggers out of Iraq, and secured the worlds oil supply from an instability very much wanted by France, Russia and Germany. This would have made the EU more competative with the USA.
This is the real scoop on the Iraq War. The Dems even now support the French and the UN. They want also to upset the Republican /Saudi alliance, for their own reasons related to lobbying power here in the USA, and Dem fundraising for taking back federal power of the Presidency and Senate.
One day W will go down in history as one of the great US presidents, up there with the other greats. The truth will come out.
Why does everything that happens in the world have to turn out to be Bush's fault or Bush was wrong?
The President can't come out and say, "We didn't find Saddam's weapons because Syria has them." As soon as that assertion is made, they'll be moved again so Syria can say "Nuh-uh, we don't have any WMD."
